Our Magic Monday Freebie!
Jonathan Mead from Illuminated Mind is giving away a copy of his, “RECLAIM YOUR DREAMS: An Uncommon Guide To Living On Your Own Terms” to the person who leaves the best comment.
“Dreams are hard, I know. We’ve all had them at some point or another. But then a little thing called “being practical” seeps in and takes over our existence. We get more focused on paying the bills and getting by than actually living. I try to show people that what they feel is practical and what they’re passionate about can coexist. That they can form a relationship with their head and heart instead of being in a constant battle. That’s why I wrote this book, Reclaim Your Dreams, to show people how to do exactly that.”
Here are just a few of the things that Reclaim Your Dreams will teach you:
- Define Your Dreams – Dreams are fickle creatures and can be hard to tie down, but with a little effort you can do it. Identifying is the first step on the way to achieving and this book will give you the tools to do just that.
- Overcome Uncertainty – You probably wonder at some level whether dreams are practical or just ridiculous. You may not necessarily doubt the dream itself, but the uncertainty that comes with working towards it. You fear your limitations. You fear your weaknesses. Reclaim Your Dreams will show you that conventional wisdom is really just a big, fat collective assumption. Dreams are possible and Reclaim Your Dreams will show you step by step just how to make them take root in the world.
-
Wake Up Happy – While there are the elusive few like yourself who dare to dream, there are others who would seek to bring you down. You’ll learn how to overcome the naysayers and how to start being excited about your life again.Jonathan is a regular writer for Zen Habits. I do know that he walks his talk. Twice I’ve asked him for help and twice he has come through for me. I consider him a blogging buddy. Check out Jonathan’s Illuminated Mind blog today. You’ll be glad you did.

A story from my book “Flying By The Seat Of My Soul.”
In 1883, an engineer, John roebling, had the idea to build the Brooklyn Bridge. Other experts told him his idea was impossible. It couldn’t be done. Washington, Roebling’s son, also an engineer, helped his father design the plan and get financing from the bank.
Next they hired the crew and began to build the bridge that spans the river between Manhatan and Brooklyn.
After a few months, an accident occurred on-site. John was killed, and his son was severely injured. Brain damage left him unable to walk or talk.
They were the only ones who knew the plan for the bridge. Because Wahington Roebling still had a clear mind, he developed a communication code as he lay in his bed. He could move one finger. With that finger he tapped out the code on his wife’s arm to communicate to her the plan so the engineers could continue building the bridge.
Washington Roebling tapped his instructions with one finger for thirteen years until the Brooklyn Bridge, an engineering miracle, was finally completed! Are you willing to do what it takes to live the life of your dreams?
What are you willing to make your dreams come true?
What today seems impossible?
What holds you back or propels you forward?

When I am losing sight of a dream, I find it helpful to sit down and write a better vision of my goals. .

Overcome Uncertainty, that is a very good one, to reach our dream we must be clear and uncertainty is the last you need.
Once we found our dream, don’t ever let go. And if anyone are lucky enough to get a second chances at it. You better hang on with both hands.
Thanks,

Tess,
8 years ago I pursued my dream to be free of the rat race and to have control over my time. I gave up the security of a regular salary, employment benefits and a predictable routine.
I was the happiest person I knew for 7 years. Now I’m starting to feel restless and know it’s time to dream again. Maybe it’s true that life moves in 7-year cycles. The thing is, I’ve been so happy and content for so long that I don’t know what else I want so that’s the challenge. It seems impossible to find anything that offers the kind of lifestyle I enjoy now, which is the envy of many people.
So I guess what’s holding me back is the lack of a clear direction forward. I know that there are dreams in all of us and I just to be still enough to let mine surface again.

What holds you back or propels you forward?
Fear does both for me. Fear due to money, relationships, failure. Fear is the thing that makes me stop at the edge of the cliff while the gravel falls into ravine, bouncing off boulders on the way down. Then, I jump, feet first, wondering how bad it’s going to hurt when I hit the bottom.
Sometimes, I take flight and sometimes I just splat.

Stacey,
A plan on paper is very wise. Details, timelines and visualizing can do wonders.
Giovanna,
Uncertainty has no place for dreamers. I also like your idea of imperfect action is better than no action. Thanks for stopping by.
Daphne,
I know exactly what you mean. My husband always said my problem is I’d go after something and as soon after I had something I’d want something different.
I think I just want to taste the many flavors of life. I think people who do one thing for 25 years are amazing. Partly because that’s impossible for me.
I would suggest you become open and aware of new opportunities. Ask for guidance and all will fall into place like it always does!
Bryssy,
Your writing is amazing. I also splat once in a while. Roadrunner in the old cartoons comes to mind! Thanks for stopping by!

The thing that holds me back is fear of failing. It shouldn’t because everytime I fail, I learn something to get me going again. I find that, in failing, in certain areas it helps me to understand my dreams better and renews my passion. It propels me forward to learn from the mistakes, pick up the pieces, and try again! Yet, while is that fear still there? Today is the start of a new week, nothing seems impossible yet.
Nothing is impossible unless the mind decides that is the case. Absence holds human beings back. Presence enables human beings to expand in infinite directions. The formless nothing propels human beings in ways they do not always notice. Dreams are not always describable in words or human terms. And yet, opportunities are unfolding every moment. As one becomes more alert, aware and receptive to energy vibration, then life blossoms.

Annie,
I understand. I think it’s our ego or lower self. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t have to continue to push through fear. However everyone’s fear isn’t always about their dreams. It could be relationship fear, health fear etc. But we all have it!
Liara,
I love that…opportunities are unfolding in every moment. That can give hope to every single unemployed person. You are so wise.

I hear you. That’s why I always worked from home when our children were growing up. Although I still didn’t have enough time and energy.
One think that helped us was to go out every weekend without kids!

What makes my dreams come true is educating myself to do well in my field. And uniquely. And saying fie on the naysayers — usually the biggest naysayer is me. So I trounce my own buttocks and stay out of my dreams’ way.
What has held me back is having not putting my nose to the grindstone 2 good hours a day. Fear of expanding my comfort zone too. I still have little fears but as I develop my chops, they are much less.
What propels me forward now are my little successes. I CAN do this music thang!!

1. Define your Dreams: Yupp, I’ve done that.
2. Overcome Uncertainty: I’m working on this. I believe in my skills, know what I can do, and know how I want to get there, but patience isn’t one of my virtues. Plus, so much of what I’m doing is fairly new to me, and I don’t know too many people. Sometimes I feel like a fish out of water. The book would really help here.
3. Wake up Happy: Yupp, I do this. In fact, I truly love what I do, and I hope that love comes out in my words and pictures.
What are you willing to make your dreams come true? Oh yeah, Baby!!
What today seems impossible? Going to my 9-5 job to keep the lights on, so to speak.
What holds you back or propels you forward? I hold myself back, and I propel myself forward. It’s up to me to get the job done, so do it I will…………….:)
Thanks for the great post, Tess. I’m lovin’ where my dreams are going.

Hey, Tess,
This is the main principle of The Law of Attraction (I’ve written about it in my blog). It generally states that you attract in your life whatever attracts your thoughts and emotions – no matter positive or negative.
I am a fan of this law and I have experienced it times and times again. Only when I know what I want and when I’m certain that I’ll get it, I really get what I wished for. Also, when I have a bad day, it doesn’t change until I change my thoughts to positive.
Thanks for the great article!

As I have freed myself from my critics and figured out what I want, wow the sky is the limit! I used to say “I never remember my dreams”, now I think I am not dreaming big enough…life is better and living it is so much more fun!
Good and emboldening post!

Consistent action is extremely powerful – and positive action can work for us or against us.
Consistent Action Used Against Us
- When we overeat consistently we gain weight.
- When we don’t exercise consistently we lose energy (and a toned body).
- When we don’t rest and recharge we are overcome with anxiety and stress.
Consistent Action Working for Us
- When we eat healthy foods we maintain a healthy body weight.
- When we exercise we feel energized and strong.
- When we take care of our bodies we feel balanced and optimistic.
Consistent action will create results that will literally astound you in your career, relationships, hobbies and goals – whatever they may be.

Luke’s last blog post..Constructive Dissatisfaction
A dream doesn’t have to be a foggy vision we vaguely remember; it can be a tangible point in which we strive and push for. The problem I see in today’s society is that fewer and fewer people want to strive and work for what they truly desire; they would much prefer take the easy route: have it given to them or just not do it.
Personally, being able to fulfill a personal dream of playing various kinds of music (jazz, funk, classical, etc.) for both recreation and freelance work gives me a great satisfaction that I can work on and enjoy something that I have spent years working on. And I cherish the fact that this is something that I will never be able to master, so that push will continue on.
I hope that more folks take to heart what they are shorting themselves on and find the right catalyst to push them toward their dreams.
Luke,
Yes I’m ready to let go of uncertainty and live our lives together! Thanks for the encouragement.
Jon,
What a wonderful dream creating music for the enjoyment of others! While we’re all pushing in on we can choose to love life and our journey or not! Rock on!
