Love at first sight is easy to understand; it’s when two people have been looking at each other for a lifetime that it becomes a miracle. -Amy Bloom

Pregnant at seventeen, I married my boyfriend Roger. By the time I was 22, I had four little girls, the third pregnancy being twins. Our 37th wedding anniversary is January 14th. We have been asked repeatedly, “How did you both stay together all of these years?”

This is indeed an inspiring story. It reminds me of a girlfriend who married about the same age as you did. She has been married now almost 20 years, has eight of her own biological children and her last two were twins. You may have more in common than you initially think! We are each evolving to expand on our sense of love.

I knew Karen 2 weeks when I asked her to marry me and 5 weeks after that we were married. In June, we will have been married 37 years. I don’t know that I could make a list of how we made it work. For me, it was that I always took the vows seriously, I never placed anything or anybody else more important than her, and she’s always been my “bestest” of friends.

    Belated congrats on your anniversary!
