Your Year to Shine: Lighten Up and Live Bravely

by Tess

I tend to take life too seriously. I need to lighten up. I can get intense over simple things.

I like to remind myself to relax. Be brave. Let go. Shine!

I really don’t have any big problems in my life, only minor inconveniences. If I allow them to steal my attention and energy I miss the joy. Most of my issues can be remedied with simple solutions.

I can think differently.

A missed flight can be rescheduled.

A five pound weight gain disappears with a decision to eat less.

A missed opportunity means I try again.

A disagreement is resolved with a shift in perception.

A physical injury heals with time.

A rejection isn’t taken personally.

A calculated risk that doesn’t work out only needs to be rethought.

A difficult relationship teaches me what love is.

Life is full of ups and downs. Small incidents aren’t the end of the world.

I only need to take a time out and simply breathe into the present moment and a solution appears.

When I let go of intensity and fear, I’m a much nicer person. When I don’t get caught up in obsessing, worry or doubt I remain open up to the unlimited potential all around me.

When I rethink life as I know it, I enjoy the ride.

I resist the impulse to settle. I free up time for adventure and fun. I hold nothing back.

I am capable of living an unstoppable life that feeds my soul.

Smart advice and bold ideas for a life of shining:

Own and accept your feelings. Recognize when you’re mad, sad or depressed. Look for the thoughts or beliefs that are causing you to feel this way. When you change your thoughts, your feelings will change as well.

Take an inventory of what’s right in the world. When you focus on what’s wrong or what you got wrong in your life, it’s easy to spiral downward. Instead look for what’s right and what you got right today.

Let go of the past. Move on. Forgive. Let go. Make peace with everyone and everything. Stop reliving painful times. Change the story that you tell yourself about life. Create a new one. A beautiful story creates a beautiful life.

Mind your own business. Let others live their lives. Like Marianne Williamson said many years ago, “Nobody put you in charge of the universe.” Focus on yourself. You don’t know what’s right or good for others. Most of the time you don’t know what’s right or good for yourself.

Make a change. If you don’t like your life tapestry, do something about it. Life won’t get better tomorrow unless you do something to make it better today.

Increase your sense of wonder. Unplug. Slow down and observe the world. Look at interactions and experiences with fresh eyes. Find richness and newness in everyday places and ordinary situations.

Be proud of your mistakes. You took a risk. You tried something new. You got out of your comfort zone. You created a new opportunity to learn. You did your best.

Stop waiting. Don’t wait for things to change. Don’t wait for things to happen. Don’t wait for someone to invite you. Grab the world and all that it has to offer and run with it. Go  to new places. See new things. Take on new challenges.

Expect things to go well. Expect the answer to be yes. Expect that people will help you. Expect that you’ll get it right. You get what you expect in life. Expect the best. You’re worthy of it all.

Own your greatness. Don’t hide your truth or your light. Allow yourself to be seen and heard. Know that you are amazing and awesome. Believe that you can change yourself and the world.

Create something. Cook. Dance. Write. Sing. Paint. There is never a reason to be bored. Create something that is challenging. Create something new. Share what you create. Use your talents and gifts to leave a mark on the world.

Be with the people you love. It’s easy to say that you love someone. Making the people you love a priority takes effort and time. Your emotional support system is made up of your family and friends. Value them. Anthony Robbins states that the quality of your life is the quality of your relationships.

Take care of yourself. Your happiness depends on it. Give yourself the love and understanding you give others. Invest in your future; eat healthy. Move your body. It feels good and you look good.

Share. Share your money, time, talent and knowledge. Withholding from others is a sign of scarcity and lack. You can’t out give God or the Universe. What you give comes back tenfold. Give today.

Make your life a daring life, a bold adventure. Don’t settle. Don’t take things too seriously. Lighten up. It frees up your time and energy to be bold and shine.

I read this post literally only a few minutes after I decided to not feel guilty and not to force myself despite not getting everything done I wanted to today. I had high expectations today but my body has been exhausted and is telling me to take it easy. I always need reminders of this so this post was so wonderful for me.

There’s some definite power here Tess. All the points have electricity especially the ‘sharing’ and ‘creativity’. Thank You.

Wonderful post Tess – and perfect timing!! It is amazing how every time I just make a small shift in my thinking the powerful affect it has. We all think we have to make these giant changes and I often wonder if its just our perspective that needs to change.

Thank you for the reminder!

Great tip to lighten up, Tess. I can take things too seriously as well, and as you say a simple mind shift can make the difference. I love this line – “I am capable of living an unstoppable life that feeds my soul.” Very powerful! Take care.

Yes! Isn’t life grand?

What a great guide to help people along on their journey. Our perception of our life experiences can totally be changed and used to improve our current situations. It’s back to the half empty or half full way of looking at life. I love it, thanks for sharing!

Hi Melissa,
Yes I think life is 100% perception and we have the freedom to choose a different one anytime we want. Talk about freedom!

I think that this a great list of reminders! The ones I find particularly helpful are the ones about taking an inventory of what’s right and minding your own business. Too much of most people’s days are spent focusing on what’s wrong and that can easily be changed! I also find that minding one’s own business is time consuming enough, so it get’s overwhelming when you try to mind everybody else’s!

Thank you Tess for this sweet, to the point blog. As I was reading it, I was mentally patting myself on the shoulder. Thoughts were crossing my mind: ” Oh yeah, I’ve been doing all this for a while now.” Then I scrolled down to the line “Own your greatness”….Well, I noticed immediately that this was the one line I could not put a check mark next to it…. In the business of getting things done, I forgot about that… I guess it’s time I dedicate more time and energy to owning my greatness then. So thank you for reminding me that! :)

I know how you feel, Tess. I do the same. I’m convinced it’s an illness just like the common cold. I will give myself doses of love whenever perfectionitis hits!
