Who’s Hot? Fridays Hit List…

by Tess on February 18, 2011

Heart In The Sky

My Friday Hit List!

The following are the people and posts that rocked my world this week. Enjoy!

Urban Soul Retrieval Quinn shares her journey as she recreates an amazing life… a scrumptious, beautiful, and expansive life.

She has a  beautiful piece of writing posted from Elia Kazan, the famous director and acting coach. It's so powerful it knocked me off my feet. No kidding!

Ordinary Courage Who gets 424 comments on one blog post? Brene Brown, Ph.D., LMSW, that's who! She is a research professor at the University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work. She has spent the past ten years studying vulnerability, courage, authenticity, and shame. Her groundbreaking work has been featured on PBS, NPR, CNN, and was the topic of two 2010 TEDx talks.

She states her new Valentine is generosity and asks us to practice love and be generous. I can do that! 424 comments…in my dreams.

Liberating Choices Marci Payne asks us to do something about child sex slavery in her Valentines Day post, "Mend Broken Hearts with Love."

I sometimes get lost in my own problems and when I see posts like Marci's I'm reminded, I don't have problems only minor inconveniences. She lists eight ways you can help. Choose one and fly with it.

Powered by Intuition Angela wrote about "blogging black out" this week. After spending time face-to-face with colleagues on a business trip, she realizes how much she's missed being emerged in the real world.  She invites you to unplug from the internet for 48 hours a week and see what changes you notice.

Teeny Tiny Pieces Jane a Writer, an educator, a painter, and a student of Healing Touch, is teaching her first "painting from within" workshop in March. Jane's creativity and enthusiasm for art and life are contagious. If I lived near Jane I'd sign up for her workshop, with bells on!

After a dry spell of three years, Jane inspired me to spend two hours yesterday at an abstract art workshop in Fountain Hills.

Write to Done has an excellent post, "It’s Time To Finish Your Book: 9 Productivity Tips for Writers," by Joanna Penn from The Creative Pen.

Tip No.8 is setting deadlines. Joanna always aims to have a new book written each year by her birthday. I love that idea. I wanted to quickly jump to, 'I can do two.' Then settled for one, plus. All tips are divine. Check them out.

Always Well Within Sandra has a post today with six links, leading to bloggers including Angela (above) and I, that wrote about blogging burnout. How many others feel this way?

I'll be hiking and running this weekend. Preparing for the 1/2 marathon in Washington this June. The weather has been in the high 70's this week, with more sun to come!

Have a great weekend everyone, spend some time unplugged!

I read Angela’s phenomenal blogging black out post and loved every word of it. It just goes to show that when we’re forced to we can switch off and do something more productive and special – like you always remind us Tess. Love first, the rest follows!

Little Lessons Under the Big Sky February 18, 2011 at 8:10 pm

    Hi Tess,
Thank you so much for continuing to bring forth new faces and names I haven’t seen, and reminders to check back in with amazing bloggers I already follow.

I gotta admit, I am feeling a bit of jealousy over the warm temperatures for running! I am signed up next weekend for a half marathon in a little tiny town in Montana. It is called the SNOW JOKE! And it is a blast. Usually you are running through various temps (this year is SURE to be snowy and cold), dogs are allowed, and you get a “beer” ticket when you cross the finish line for a local pub. Can you say funny?

I am taking it seriously though this year. My neice who is 16 has never run this distance. We have been training together for 3 months and it will be so fun to watch her accomplish this dream, and be a part of it.

Have a wonderful weekend. Thanks for sending me “virtual” sunshine each time you post:)

    Hi Tess,

Thanks for sharing this wonderful list of posts! There are so many amazing people out there that have great things to offer. I haven’t connected with a few of these blogs so really appreciate the reference. I really enjoyed the post you provided from Write to Done as well, so great selection,

    Quinn W February 18, 2011 at 10:32 pm

Thank you so much for sharing my link here. I am so grateful for the people you have connected me with. I’ve been writing my story for a little over a month now, really reflecting and trying to understand just me. Now I’m moving to a place where other people are sharing their similar experiences with me, and wow, it’s amazing. Thank you for helping me on this path. I’m so glad to have found you, your writing, and your community.

Thank you for sharing the link to my Valentine post on giving. It’s been a passion of mine for 2 years. I had no idea how prevalent slavery is in our world. I’m still trying to understand it, and how I may be able to make a tiny ripple in the big problem.

I’ve been reading Leo’s focus book and starting to have information fasts. Great to do. Lots of insight. I continue to savor and unplug from technology, when I can pry myself away!
