NoWordz Photography and Caroline Manrique

by Tess on July 17, 2010

Welcome Caroline from NoWordz Photography! I flew to CA.to meet Caroline after hiring her to do my new header and a photo shoot. We had so much fun it was really a big laugh fest! Today she's with us for an interview.

Caroline's blog is Whimsy Wispers check it out, you'll find a gifted photographer and artist. In fact when my daughter and grandson come for the next visit we may go back!

Tell us something we don’t know about the woman behind the camera that we love so much.

Ha…I feel like I say so much (maybe too much!) on my blog ;) .  Okay, seriously…I am very very determined!  When I have an interest in something, I have to know everything about it.

When I got my first camera, I had no idea how to use it.  I only knew how to use a pocket camera.  But I was determined to learn and know everything I could about the camera.  So I hit the books, watched youtube videos, and practiced, practiced, practiced.

I seek knowledge and love learning new things.  I am the eternal student.  I loved school…especially late night cramming (I was in the zone).  Oh yeah…did I mention I am procrastinator?  I thrive on pressure and often leave things to the last minute!  And I love Bollywood music!

The Bold Life: What would your business look like if you had a bold focus, discipline and passion? Is she inspiring or what. Caroline often puts music on her blog which makes it even more awesome.

What came first your camera or your blog?

My blog.  My first blog was "The Zen In You"  I started it 3 years ago when I moved to California.  I felt like I needed a place to share my views and I wanted to be part of a community of like minded people.  I have changed a lot since then and let that blog go about 9 months ago.  Now I have Constantly Evolving…it's perfect for me. Always changing.  You never know what you might find there from day to day.

The Bold Life: That's the Truth! It's what keeps us coming back for more. My creative juices flow when I'm looking at your photos and reading what about you. I want to tell the world about you. But I'll allow you…

What do you want tell the world about your “photography for the soul?”

What I see through my lens is pure beauty and spirit.  Photography is my way of expressing the grace of this world (and people) that you can't see with your eyes.  My hope is that my photography makes you pause…if just for a moment…and breathe or smile.  I want my photography to touch your soul.

The Bold Life: You've certainly touched mine. And I do think you captured the core of me which is beauty and spirit. It's something nobody can take from us no matter what we do.

Tell us about your positive and powerful word for 2010. What has it meant to you in the last six months?

This year is all about blooming for me.  I chose the word BLOOM to carry me through this year…and so far, I can say that I am blooming (and so is my work).

One thing I really wanted to do was focus on doing portraits for women.  This is near and dear to my heart.  I love taking photos of women (because most women dislike how they look in photos…and my goal is to make them  feel beautiful…to show their spirit and soul).

The Bold Life: You found your niche and I think your work is so needed. Everyone who sees my photos wants their photo taken by you. I'm ecstatic I made that choice.

What is the story behind your daily photo?

I am not sure there is a story.  I just love to take photos and I need to keep my creative juices flowing.  It's not easy to post a photo everyday…but it's immensely rewarding.  Also. It helps me to open my creative channels and push myself.

The Bold Life: There's the story and the lesson for those in a rut. Caroline, you've pushed yourself through labor and have birthed a new career.

Most people fear change. You say you like it.  Have you always liked change?

I love change!  I think I have always been like that.  I think I get bored easily and like to experience new and different things.  Life is short…and change is good to mix things up.  It does not always have to be BIG changes.  It can be little things.  Like today, I wore a flowery summer dress.  I never wear dresses…it was a nice change.  See…little things.. ;)

The Bold Life: You're such an example. Hold on while I change into a summer dress as well;) This is so fun.

You often put music on your blog. What are your 5 favorite songs of all time?

Oh gosh…now this might be the hardest question!!  I love so many songs…Well, right now here are my top five.

1. Under the milky way by The Church
2. Desperado by The Eagles
3. In God's Country by U2
4. Caught up in you by 38 special
5. My ever changing moods by The Style Council

The Bold Life: Caroline emails me a question:

Can you add one more song? (I just can't do 5!!!)
6. Rosemary by Lenny Kravitz

What is the last big risk you took?

Officially starting my photography business.  For so long I didn't really try to promote my work.  I feared the competition.  I feared not being good enough. I feared failure.  But then I decided..what the heck!

Make it official…put yourself out there.  And so far, I am getting lot's of bookings and even have an Art Showing on July 1st.   So…I am following my heart…and not listening to those negative thoughts.

Thank you Tess for having me here today.  I so am honored to be part of your blog community..there is so much wisdom that you and your readers share.  It's a blessing to know you!  *mwah*  You're the bomb!

The Bold Life: You're such a Bold Life kind of person. That's why we love you! Thank you for "going for it" and brightening our world!

    Hello Caroline (and Tess!),

Great interview and I share this with you Caroline “When I have an interest in something, I have to know everything about it.” Once I have set my sights on something, I am all in. I simply cannot “dabble” in something! I am either Full On into it or I am not.

I think that staying teachable is essential for personal growth. The fact that you have remained an “eternal student” is the reason why you’re succeeding!

Caroline, you made a statement in this interview that I don’t think many can honestly make. You said “I love change!” and that is such a powerful statement! To be able to love change means your heart must be so open, and you must have a mindset that whatever life brings our way, it can be used for our good. When I read that sentence, I was floored and it caused me to look inside myself. Do I love change? Am I ready to see things as a potential benefit or do I react in fear at the unfamiliar?

Thank you for making me think these things!

Tess, thank you for sharing this today, and I LOVE, LOVE ,LOVE your new look!!!!! Great job!!!!

Tess, I love the new look for your blog. It’s elegant in its simplicity and choice of colours. Very very nice. :)

However, I just thought I should let you know that your Constantly Evolving goes to a completely different site at whimsywhispers.blogspot.com, not whimsywispers.blogspot.com which I’m sure is the site you really wanted to link to in the first place. I hope you won’t mind me pointing this out!

Caroline, I am looking at your professional site now, and I am simply marvelling at the quality of your images… and just how full of LIFE they are! Fabulous! It’s no wonder your business is taking off! Bravo! :)

    Wait!

Let me go change into my flowery dress for this comment…

Okay, I’m back and all summer-looking now! Did you miss me when I was gone that minute? :)

What can I say about this woman you are interviewing??? I LOVE her, love her attitude. Love how she just went for her dream despite little nagging fears. I love you both!! Tess, you’ve been one of my heroes for a while now, as you know!

Caroline’s photos are pure joy! She inspires me as I will be getting more into photography too. Just do it, eh!?

And I know and love 4 of those 6 songs!

Tess, this new design is great! I think if you put the nav links horizontally under you header you will be 100% there with this. (But you’re probably thinking of that already, right?) :)

Thank you both for such joy today.

I love Caroline’s pictures and your new header and photo Tess, and I was wondering where she had gone…now I know and wow am I behind the times…Great interview I appreciated it very much.

There is a giant lack of pictures of me in this world….and I am a person who disappears in the presence of others…..I like my ladybug image because people see it plainly and always comment…like the sparkle in Tess’ eyes and her fabulous smile….

Beauty times two. Both of you ladies rock.

Tess, I love what you’ve done with your site. The header looks awesome (because of your gorgeous photo, of course). Your about page is captivating. (I love the casual shot of you) and I also took time to listen to you on video (your ispeak page). What a great speech – filled with lots of life lessons.

And Caroline…As you know, I’ve been a huge fan of yours even before you decided to go “public” with your work, Your photography leaves me speechless and the way I see it, the only way for you to go is UP. You are truly a talented photographer.

It’s been a great pleasure seeing both of you in the same place. :)

Caroline, I was so excited to read this interview that even though I received the Feedburner notice last night, I saved reading it until this morning because I wanted to be fresh. I think you are AWESOME! So fantastically awesome. I’m hoping to make my way to CA so I can please book a photo shoot with you. You do amazing work, and I’m so intrigued by you, both as a woman and an entrepreneur.

Tess, your new site is incredible, and to kick it off with Caroline… Well that was a genius move!

You are both incredibly beautiful women, and I hope to someday sit in a room with both of you, laughing, loving, and LIVING boldly OUT LOUD!

Hello you two fearless creative ladies! Caroline I love how you love change! No wonder you are so creative! And isn’t photography just the best outlet for that! If we can honor our own evolving nature instead of fearing it, or fearing change altogether, we can experience so much more of life and let our souls soar!
Hats off to you, Tess! You find the neatest people to interview – AND you do it so well!

Caroline, I remember you! Used to read “The Zen in You.” I love the header of your new blog. Gorgeous. So, this is what you’ve been up to :)
Tess, this is an excellent photograph of you. I watched your video, too. You are a pubic speaker all right! :-) I loved the props you used. You also got me all teary-eyed when you shared the transition you’d made from complaining about moving your husband’s shoes to appreciating that you have him in your life. Congrats on 35 years. Hugs to you both. I look forward to seeing more of your speeches.

I love how looking through a lens of a camera makes you find more of the beauty in life. We have to step back and appreciate.

I love how Caroline embraces change. That’s a huge part that holds us back from living a bold life. We get used to life being a certain way. By not being afraid of change we embrace more of the beauty in the ebb and flow of life.

Great interview. Keep them coming Tess.

Ditto ditto on all that is said before. Wonderful new look and what a photo of Tess. I agree with Caroline, to make women shine in a photo is sheer magic and can only done by a person who ’sees’ the beauty within. Tess, you are beautiful in and out. I also love the photos on the side of your adventures, Tess.
I agree, if you can love change you are alive and NOT stopping the flow of possibilities. I absolutely love your declaration, Caroline, and it is obvious from the photos; “What I see through my lens is pure beauty and spirit. Photography is my way of expressing the grace of this world (and people) that you can’t see with your eyes.”
Wow, what a great result by great women. You both are awesome, love Wilma

I went to her site and just LOVE her green lady photo. WOW!! Really relate to that one. Have you seen it? Scroll down the page; you can’t miss it.

Also, I just LOVE LOVE LOVE this new look on your site and the photo of you at the stop and on the side. You are beautiful , Tess (those eyes are something else – wow!), and that photo of you hugging the tree moved me deeply. Your joy looks like a child’s, or what we tend to see more in children, and sadly less in adults. So it is good to see it in an adult. You look happy, full of hope and excitement over life and all it offers, like the sky is the limit.

I have missed being here. I sent you an email so watch for it. :) :)
