Great post, and great discussion in the comments! I have recently taken the leap of faith and quit my job. I am currently running a side business that is not successful yet, but I am also looking for a less consuming "regular job".
This post has given me some perspective on how to manage my fear in this situation... And boy is there some fear! Thank you!

Fear is such a sneaky beast and can masquerade in so many ways, which is why this direct list is so great. I often tell people that safety is an illusion, that we think we know what we're going to do when we wake up in the morning, but really, we don't, because it could all change in an instant. And usually I get puzzled stares in return because most people are really into that illusion of safety.

There can't be a better person than you to talk about fear and being bold enough to face the fears. Lovely post. I totally agree with what you say about safety being an illusion. And I think fear is in mind. Sometimes going through a loss once makes us insulated from other similar fears while sometimes it makes us even more vulnerable.

Fear is one that I have been working on lately, thanks to Tess. Sometimes we do need outside help to point out fears that can be buried. Or we may know that we have a fear, but to challenge that fear we have to find out where it came from. Ones we find out the WHY we can challenge it and put it behind us with a little work.

Thank you Tess for opening my eyes to my fear of success and helping me get it put in file 13 as they use to say. (it is being trashed further more)
Hugs to you,

Tess,

I agree with you 100 percent! Fear stems from the fear of losing something -- losing something that we perceive to be in limited quantities. If we can adopt a more abundant mindset, and realize that some of the things we fear losing are really available in abundance, we would be a lot less fearful (and a lot happier too!) Nice job with this one. I loved it!

That's interesting that you suggest telling ourselves that we are safe right now. Years ago when I was transitioning from a life driven by fear to one grounded in joy, my own little mantra was "I am safe." When my fears would start to churn and make up stuff, I would stop myself and say that. It's a wonderful reassurance.

Hi Tess,
Fear is indeed about change. More specifically, about our own confidence in being able to handle the consequences of change. Sometimes fear is warranted, but often it only serves to keep us from reaching our full potential.

Thanks for another great post.
