As so often happens, something comes across my path that I need to read right when I need to read it! I've been having unusual feelings of anxiety lately revolving around my kids....picturing bad things that might happen to them, them getting hurt, etc. It's strange, because this is not typical for me, and although it's just mild anxiety and nothing that interferes with my daily life, it's still annoying and unsettling. So the line "You have no control when it comes to the big picture of life. Learn to enjoy it in all of its suffering and pain. This concept is liberating if you can relax and accept it" was a great reminder for me to not spend any time worrying about the things I can't control and just let life take its course. Thank you for the psychic nudge :)

Another wonderful book I've read with a similar theme is "Live Like a Fruit Fly" by Gabe Berman. If you enjoyed this one, I highly recommend that one, too!

As someone who has survived two life threatening illnesses, I can relate very well to the messages of this book. Every day is precious, and we need to let the people we love know this by our actions and words.

I am sure Dr Lee faced life bravely, but sometimes it is okay to just cry. Today was a day when I needed to do just that. As Paulo Coelho in his book - Like the Flowing River has mentioned: Cry if you need to,it's good to cry out all your tears, because only then you will be able to smile again...
Thanks for the opportunity to participate in this giveaway. I am already subscribed to the bold life at lukathewriter (at) gmail (dot) com.

Tess,

Thank you for this post and the gentle reminder about living today. I know so many of us feel trapped by a past we long to forget, and terrified of a future that we desperately want to come true. And yet it is in this moment where the past and future meet, when we can let go of what once was, and begin to create what will be tomorrow.

When I pause and consider where and who I am, I realize, I don’t want to wait to start living my life tomorrow, I want to live it today. I don’t want to put off loving those around me until tomorrow, I want to love today. And I don’t want to spend my time hoping for tomorrow, I want to embrace today.

As I keep my focus on this moment, that’s when I know, when I feel it within, how wonderful life is, how precious this experience is, and how grateful I am for everything, everyone, every direction and every shape my life has taken.

May we all find joy & peace in this moment.

Sounds like an uplifting and inspirational book. Anyone that lives that well in the face of approaching death, that is with an active awareness of it, deserves respect and a listen.
Death is something we all have to deal with, in one way or another. And he's right, the focus should be on living well and touching others. To reach out to comfort and help another person, especially with no motive for reward other than being able to help, is to me the finest thing a person can do.
And do I believe we go on past death? Oh yes. Life really wouldn't make much sense if we didn't!
Thanks for sharing, Tess.

Life is a series of moments. Each one is precious. Being conscious of what we do with each of them and being grateful for the gifts in each of them can create an incredibly happy life. Tess, thank you for the beautiful stories that remind me of this.

Tess, Embracing all that life gives us to live is our opportunity to open. It is such a gift. It sounds like Dr. Lee learned about life's gifts and has much to share with his readers.

Thank you for sharing.

Lately I decided to try to make positive differences in other's lives while on my life journey. Sometimes it may be at work, sometimes it may be with the person I'm standing in line with at the grocery store. Surprisely I'm finding many of my touches with others actually make positive differences in my life. I am so grateful to be alive and I hope I make positive differences in others as they are making positive differences with me.

Tess, I'm so glad you were able to feel that connection with your mom - what a magical moment it must have been.

And the book sounds like a great read! I particularly liked the line, "Fun stuff happens every day." So true! I had an interview with a reporter today, and was nervous about what I would say. A friend encouraged me to think of it as FUN, rather than WORK, and it made all the difference. :)
