Gary Zukav’s Spiritual Partnership: The Journey To Authentic Power

Spiritual Partnership: The Journey to Authentic Power

Gary Zukav's latest book, "Spiritual Partnership: The Journey to Authentic Power" invites us to change our world by using our relationships as opportunities for spiritual growth.

In the book he divides all people into two categories. The first category of people are referred to as"five sensory" or spiritually rigid. People in this group are unwilling or unable to look within themselves and instead blame their suffering on bad luck, illnesses, betrayal or miserable relationships. In order to feel valued and secure it is necessary to manipulate and control others.

The second category of people is referred to as "Multi-sensory"  or spiritually empowered. This group of people are are able to look within and make internal changes. By managing their moods and emotions the need to blame a spouse or life's circumstances is lost. This ability allows multi-sensory relationships to be authentically empowered.

Zukav's defines a spiritual partnership as a partnership between equals for the purpose of spiritual growth. Spiritual partnerships can be between spouses, significant others, family members, friends and co-workers.

Partners in a spiritually empowered relationship consult intuition, listen for guidance, create an intention and act with a loving and empowered heart. Outcomes are surrendered. They are based on love and trust instead of fear and doubt.

Spiritual partnerships are about recognizing and lessons for self-growth and evolution. The purpose is to help each other grow into a  better and more loving person. Spiritual partners feel safe enough to share emotions, intentions and examine projections which allows them to grow in understanding and compassion. Spiritually empowered partners recognize what's important in their relationship, find peace and love within and then share it with the world.

Gary uses specific examples, guidance and guidelines to enable the reader to explore emotions, intentions, intuition and create spiritual growth in our relationships and world.

Note: If you have read Gary Zukav's previous books you will find very little new information in this one. It would serve as a refresher course.

Also: Check out the interview at Jungle Of Life. You'll find an interview with Maggie – a woman who has a site, Violence Unsilenced for surviviors of domestic vilence and sexual assault to share their stories and find healing.

The Levity Project is bringing life and laughter to New York City. If you want to join in the fun and celebration check it out this Sunday, May 2nd.

    Hi Tess.
I always love explanations that speak to both my heart and my mind.
I have 3 books that compliment each other beautifully and those serve as my anchors and guides on my return to my authentic self.
A Course In Miracles, ‘Love without End’ by Glenda Green and ‘the Ringing Cedar Series’ by Vladimir Megre.
They are all saying the same thing but in such a different way that I at least have a chance of ‘getting’ their powerful message.
Happy Holiday to you, love Wilma

Hi Tess — thanks for this review — I’ve been hearing Gary Zukav’s name a lot recently and I’ve been interested to find out more about his work. The book I read most recently that inspired me was The Flight From Intimacy, which is about counter-dependency (the opposite of codependency) and I thought was deeply insightful.

This is good stuff, Tess. I have a quote that crossed my path the other day that paints this picture. It’s written by Antoine de Saint-Exupery — “I like a friend the better for having faults that one can talk about.” Two books stand out for me: The first goes way back to when I first started reading about spirituality; Out on a Limb by Shirley MacLaine. More recently I’d have to say the book was Awaken the Giant Within by Tony Robbins.

Hi Tess – Thank you for this introduction. I think the definition of the “five sensory” individual dovetails with the characteristics narcissistic behavior takes. Lori Hoeck and I have begun further work on this subject, so I’ll be reading more from Gary.

An old school friend of mine has just recently written a Novel called The Emissary which he’s sent me and I’m going to be reviewing next week. He hopes it will inspire the world so If any fellow bloggers would also like to review it please let me know, if you’re in the UK and he can send you and advance copy before the launch.

I haven’t read anything recently that’s added anything new for me, but I have been re-reading some older books which gave me some turning points.

The Power Of Intention – Wayne Dyer
John DeMartini – The Breakthrough Experience
Deepak Chopra – Ageless Body Timeless Mind
    The Prophet – Karlil Gibran

    Hi Tess,
I guessed from the title of your own book that you’re a Zukav fan! This was a great recommendation. I wish books like this could be dispensed to evryone who creates their own pain by shoulding all over themselves, blaming and living in self-fabricated dramas.

There are so many books on my shelves that empower authenticity that it’s hard to pick a few. Your readers might enjoy anything by Victoria Moran, Julia Cameron or Cheryl Richardson. Charmed Life, The Artist’s Way and Life Makeovers are three of my coaching favourites. I also enjoyed Marianne Williamson’s hymn to ‘middle age’ – The Age of Miracles. Tony Robbins is great on CD in the car and his wee mini bookGiant Steps is a life blueprint in itself. Katie Byron’s Loving What Is is a spiritual classic. I have to go now – I feel the onset of brain frazzle…too many books!

For a very long time I was in a marriage that was spiritually rigid. There was no connection, no intimacy or deep understanding of one another. I felt so alone… even when we were together and with our friends, and I was starving for something that was “missing”.

I’ve come to learn that what was missing was the spirituality… my former husband and I simply couldn’t grow together. I learned from this relationship how important it is for me to have a partner I can spiritually grow with. And, today, I’m happy to say, I have found that special someone.

    :)

Hi Tess .. I know I haven’t read anything by Zukav .. so he’s on my list .. and the way you’ve described the book and its contents is very interesting and informative.

At the moment I look forward to getting back to reading and learning – but I’m so grateful for the blogosphere – as there are so many wise people to read with – & hear their experiences .. that for now I draw from those.

I have lots of books and lots to read … but for inspiration .. without scouring the shelves my brain isn’t working .. except for Mandela’s “Long Walk to Freedom” .. that is inspirational and a big learning curve in forgiveness and working with what you have .. even if it’s stone quarry and prison wardens. I guess his disclipline of being a boxer helped enormously – but I’m not sure I read it in the book.

Thanks – so interesting .. especially with what I’m experiencing now – it’s a book I need to read in the forseeable future .. all the best – Hilary

Wonderful sounding book! And my gosh, it seems that most of the books I’ve read in the last ten years have been empowering, including yours! (smile) It’s always fun to get another perspective, though. I believe that deep down, each of us knows everything we could ever read about or learn from others. We simply need to be reminded, and have that knowledge brought to the surface through an experience we have (i.e., reading, interacting with someone, etc.).

Much love to you, Tess! Oh, and you’re right — that interview with Maggie on The Jungle of Life was just… WOW. What a woman.

Hi Tess! I have a post to review this on Monday – totally agree with yours. Altho I don’t believe I mentioned it, I too felt this book kind of a re-hash of his earlier ones. I still liked it, but beyond the multi-sensory thing, it wasn’t really new stuff. But then let’s face it, how many ways can you regurgitate the same basic messages? I found Dyer and Eckhart Tolle the most life-changing personally. After gobbling books for 62 years, I’m about at my saturation point with this “theme” – at some point you just have to close the books and start LIVING it!

    Well done!

    Hi Tess

Thank you for introducing Gary’s book. I just love the idea of the two categories and completely agree as I see that all around me. And I love the term he uses “mulit-sensory” – how appropriate!

I have not read anything from Gary previously, so for me, I guess it would all be new material.
    Thanks again Tess for sharing!

    Hi Tess -

Good recommendation – I’m always looking for spiritual material to add to my reading list. Some books I’d recommend include:

Man’s Search for Meaning – Viktor Frankl
Tibetan Book of Living and Dying – Sogyal Rinpoche
The Art of Possibility – Ben and Rosamund Zander

    Enjoy!

Being able to look at yourself and honestly examine where you might be heading off course is extremely important. I have a friend who can’t seem to keep friends and I wish she was able to do more self-evaluation because I think that would be very beneficial to her.

Anyway, thanks for being on the tour!

Thanks so muc for stopping by and leaving your comments. I’m sorry I’m not able to leave an individual not to each of you. I just arrived at daughter no. 1 and watched my grandson at daughter no.2′s today. We took him to visit my mom who isn’t doing well at all.

We leave for our cottage tomorrow and I’ll be responding at each of your blogs then. Again I’m grateful and appreciate each one of you. xo

    Tess,
I love Gary’s work! And I will definitely read this book-thank you for the recommendation. It surprises me how many of your readers are unfamiliar with him. So, I’m glad you’ve generated interest!
What speaks to me most is the term “multi-sensory” and all that is covers. I’ve yet to fit in a category, but if I were to fit, this would be the one I aspire to:)
Much good Energy to your mom!
