What helps me with my attitude the most is writing on my blog, positively present. Writing on the blog encourages me to think about EVERYTHING in a positive light, which has been really, really helpful for me.

When I need to raise my tone level or attitude I commence a rampage of appreciation for all the wonderful things in my life. I begin with nature and give thanks for the clouds, trees, hummingbirds in my garden and all the flowers. Then I move onto all my family past and present, friends and those who need special blessings for the hard times they face. By this time I’m really rampaging with abandon and I usual work up a wonderful attitude that basks in the sun and takes me where I need to go. Whew! Life is extraordinary!

Last time I had issues with my attitude was this WEEK!!!

What did I do (or normally do) …. I try to flip the switch. Once I recognize that I have a crappy attitude I try to flip it to a positive one! How? Different ways. Think about what I’m grateful for. Write in my gratitude journal, go for a walk (if I have time), pray, etf or just breathe deep. Normally writing in my little blue book aka my gratitude journal will do the trick and its fast and easy :)

I think I wrote in every day this week. lol and thanks for last week :)

Attitude adjusting workouts – sunshine, working in the garden, seeing a really good movie, reading a great book and writing…so much is just all in my mind…have to keep looking at what’s in there from different perspectives – to be aware of the funk is the hardest part for me, but once I see look out I’m on the move.

When my attitude is out of whack, I like to grab my camera, and look at the world throughmy lense … it is a different perspective, and reminds me that thigns are not always what they seem, and that the experiences of the day are temporary, though their impact can be long lasting. How I choose to interact with my own attitude makes a great deal of difference in my next attitude. I also find that writing a little email to my sweetheart and sharing a 3 sentance version of the positive direction I want to get shifted into for the day is a great help! It helps us as a couple, and it helps me as an individual!

I need attitude adjustmments every day! Some times just little tweeks, and at others … major overhauls! It is good to be human, and alive with emotions!

My attitude has taken me many places, some awesome and some not so awesome. I am in charge of my attitude and have learned thoughout the years that a positive attitude carries me much further than a negative one. When my attitude is positive, all things are possible and I allow myself the time to dream, wonder and create. I appreciate all the little things of the world when my attitude is positive, such as the new growth on my peony tree, a tiny frog in the pond, the smell of the newly tilled earth. I appreciate everything because I am not rushing to get to the next accomplishment or duty but rather am staying in the present and experiencing all that the present has to offer.

When I see a need for a shift in attitude I change my state of mind. This takes a bit of practice but really isn’t difficult. When facing a person or situation that creates an atmosphere in which my attitude begins to head in the wrong direction, I change my state of mind using various techniques (ie posture, breathing, thoughts) . It’s really about changing my internal beliefs and associations. No one or nothing can “make” me angry or stressed and when I feel myself heading that way I remind myself of this and choose my mood. Attitude is a feeling and we can choose how we feel. :-)

For me the key to shifting my mindset is to release and turn back in ward to understand where my attitude is and is it coming from my ego’s needs or my spiritual needs and how am I impacting myself and others.

The only thing I don’t like about that guy is he beat me to writing that book.

Well, Tess, to change my attitude I used to lift my boot heel with great force towards my own derriere region… until I learned to float with the good energy fairies and let them guide me to the shift in consciousness that is there for the taking if only I let my emotions settle to the natural frequency of their astral homes.

Yes, I’m a big Liara Covert fan too!! :)

    Positively Present,
    Good for you. You go!

That’s wonderful that you bless your family and friends when you are feeling low. Of course those blessings are all coming back tenfold.

My gratitude book is hot pink and yes it works every time for me. I have at least 6 from the past years. I can go back look in them and know exactly what was going on in my life at the time. Your welcome by the way!

Your methods are warm and inviting. I like that you’re on the move when you catch yourself!

I think I need tweaks and overhauls daily as well. I’m not a flat liner or even keel person. Never was never will be. It’s what makes me, me.

I like all of the positive things you mention a good attitude brings. I love the same ones. Isn’t life grand?

Well isn’t that the truth. We choose it! I also like your approach and techniques. It’s so easy to blame others or external events. Rock on!

Ego needs or spiritual needs. It’s that simple isn’t it. No need to blame, shame or beat up on self or others for our unpositive moods. Define where it’s coming from and move on!

    Vered - MomGrind May 18, 2009 at 9:01 pm

I learned to force myself to see the positive in situations. So now that it’s 9pm and I still need to fold that huge pile of laundry, I could have been whining endlessly about it, but instead, I remind myself how lucky I am to have a washer and dryer. Laundry is so EASY now compared with previous generations.

    Davina May 19, 2009 at 12:03 am

Well, I never win anything, so I’m not even gonna try.

How’s THAT for an attitude? And having said that, humour will work every time to make “shift happen”.

Tess The Bold Life May 19, 2009 at 4:10 am

Yes laundry is so easy compared to previous generations. You have me thinking of my mom and the laundry she had for her 10 children and my dad!

You are so funny you just could win with that!!

    janice May 19, 2009 at 6:20 am

I’m with Vered and all of you grAttituders on this one. Whenever I’m down, I remember how I felt watching them give my two year old daughter oxygen and heart massage in the ambulance after a fever fit and the thermometer as my young son’s temperature regularly rose to 104. I remember the night before I had a tumour removed and all that I vowed I would do if I came through OK. That usually kick starts me. I also have a collection of DVD’s that do the same, especially Scrooge based Christmas ones or anything to do with second chances. It’s so easy to simply drift into attitude slumps or let other people’s opinions of us affect us. I allow mself some moping or rant time, then I write.

I love these Mondays, Tess. Never know what to expect!

Tess The Bold Life May 19, 2009 at 8:44 am

I love all of your methods. I like to rant while I’m writing. I like turning on inspiring music. Thanks for stopping by.

Liara Covert May 19, 2009 at 4:08 pm

Tess, the idea of viewing words and thoughts as ’soulful snacks’ makes loads of sense. A person’s state of mind, body and spirit relates not only to foods and beverages they chooe to ingest, but also to their chosen language. The combination has the potential to effect you like a power bar or energy shake. You decide whether your vibration rises and good feelings take over or not. Thanks for the book recommendation.

When I have a “bad attitude” sometimes I simply allow it until I’m sick of it. Then I make the change because I’m not getting anywhere by being a sour puss. That said I have some favorites: put a smile on my face – that instantly changes my mood. Seek silence so I can sort through the emotional part of the attitude, or go for a long walk on the beach, in any weather, with my iPod blasting dance music in my ears. By the time I get back to my car I forget what all the negativity was about!

Tess The Bold Life May 20, 2009 at 1:47 pm

Yes our food and our words and thoughts are all powerful to our body, mind and spirit. I want to make all of mine soft and sweet!

I like your methods and I haven’t heard the words “Sour Puss” since my childhood. Thanks for the memory!
