                   Magic Monday Give Away …

Last week’s winner is Jocelyn at wwww.itakeoffthemask.com

Today my friend Barb Badolati is offering her CD, “Sleep in Peace, Wake with Joy” a guided journey into relaxation for the person who leaves the best comment!

Has the economy, your job, stress, unemployment or debt kept from a full nights sleep? Do your cell phone, Blackberry, or the Internet keep you active more and sleeping less? Do you know if you don’t sleep well you are more likely to smoke, drink and eat more?

Dr. Howard Lee, director of sleep disorder lab at St. Mary Medical Center and Lower Bucks Hospital says the number of new patients with symptoms of insomnia has doubled in the last six months to more than 12 a week, Lee said. “So much of it relates to personal or family difficulties with finances.”

A good night’s sleep carries many benefits, it regulates your body temperature, you conserve energy, release of toxins, a decrease in blood pressure, a healthy immune system and regulates your bodily functions.  Sleeping well keeps you alert, productive and increases your problem solving ability.

Barb Badolati is a Wellness Coach, and spends her time helping others make lasting changes and  live a balanced life. Barb’s an expert on nutrition, yoga, and dedicates her holistic health classes, presentations and products to individuals and groups seeking healthier, happier, and more balanced lives.

She encourages personal and professional growth through creative and practical exercises in self-awareness, self-renewal and self-development.  Barb invites you to imagine the power of feeling healthy everyday, inside and out!Comment below for your chance to win “Sleep In Peace, Wake In Joy.”

Sleep, sweet sleep. Next to water, food and love — the thing we need the most, I do believe. Actually ranked dead top on one list of “traits of successful people.”

I average 7.5 hours. What can keep me awake are those yucky dark thoughts that come around 3:00 a.m. — general modern life worries about all the things on my to-do list. Arrrrg. Thankfully, all seems fresh and new in the morning.

And funny you pose this question on the very night after we lost one whole hour of sleep due to the switch to Daylight Savings Time.

I’m gonna be cranky if I don’t post this comment now and get to sleep.

Sweet, sweet slumber, here I come. Perchance to dream of only wonderful things and have the best day ever tomorrow.

    6 hours.

Darn mosquitoes which bite and make me itch all night.

High-carb snacks like chocolates and cookies put me to sleep best!

    Hi Tess,

Sleep. It’s one of those things I know I need more of…and try…yet seem to slip back to the same spot time and time again. Currently I’m averaging somewhere between 4 – 6 hours/night.

Once I make it to bed, nothing really keeps me awake (well, maybe a good conversation with my wife…). I have no problem falling to sleep, or staying there (I think that’s partially due to getting only 4 – 6 hours). I wake up because I set an alarm. And I set it so early because I feel like early morning hours are my best time to be productive and get many things done for me.

I try not to eat shortly before bed. ANd I have a pretty consistent schedule I follow. So, my body “expects” to be in bed at a certain time each evening. Once I’m there, sleep comes easily.

This is a topic of great interest to me – thank you for writing this!

    Jannie,
7.5 hours is good. We have this CD and sometimes I play it if I wake up in the middle of the night. It beats and over the counter drugs!

    Daphne,
I love your response, short, sweet and honest.

    Lance,
The secret to life is consistency and it sounds like you practice it.
6 hours doesn’t sound bad but 4 Yikes!

When my girls were growing up I probably only got that much as well. It was the only way to stay one step ahead of them!

However now I love my sleep.

I used to have chronic insomnia and was sleep-deprived for years. Now I’m retired and average over 8 hours a night. My “sleeping pill” is listening to Books on Tape. I like them on cassettes rather than CDs because I’m always falling asleep and have to rewind. I never take sleep for granted. after all those years it’s one of my greatest joys.

It is an ongoing goal of mine to get more sleep. I always aim for 7-8 hours, and usually end up with 6-7, sometimes less. It almost never feels like enough – for someone who is a night owl and yet her job (elementary school teacher of dyslexic students) requires her to get up early.

I’ve read sleep articles for years and try to avoid the pitfalls…. late caffeine, meals, alcohol…. but mostly what keeps my ’sleep number’ low is the amount of activities, (physical, social, and educational) that i often try to cram into each day. During the more worrisome weeks – the stresses and questions of the day/week sometimes keep me up.

I always read before I go to sleep. Usually that is enough to take me to slumber land, but i also have one CD called ‘dreams’ of sleepytime music that sometimes helps. i would love to expand my repertoire of ‘comfort music’. ;-)

Thanks for your work, Tess and Barb, to help people live happier lives. :-) Karin

I try to aim for at least 8 hours of sleep every night. My body really needs 10 hours and I try to catch up on sleep on the weekends. I am a very anxious person, so my worrying mind keeps me awake quite often. I am always up thinking about various things and jumping from one thought to another. I use calming lotions to relax me and help me to fall asleep but it does not work all the time. I love sleep and function best when I am well rested.

    Hi Tess

Your title does not make me feel too good ;)

Well, sleep depends on the day of the week, but lets say on average: 9 hours
Nothing keeps me awake (only very occassionally does worry have an effect on my sleeping). More often than not I sleep too much and too easily.
I lie down (honest, not being funny. I’ll be asleep before my head hits the pillow)

    Jean,
I love the idea of books on tape and not having to rewind. Your insomnia must have been due to your job?

    Karin,
Your sound like a very dedicated teacher. What a job! Your on the right track with your CD and I love that quote. Love it!

    Danielle,
You might want to try deep breathing exercises as well. That and running through my family and friends and silently blessing them and wishing them well helps. Better than counting sheep!

    Juliet,
It sounds like you know how to get a good nights sleep!

Hi Tess! I’m really sorry I haven’t visited here for a while. I’ve got sore eyes and even had to take a week off from work. I”m really honored and so happy that my Life Statement had been chosen last week. I think I can’t be thankful enough :-) It was truly a magical Monday. By the way, I’ve read your e-book giveaway and I’ve really shed some tears with a life well lived and shared.

I average 4-6 hours of sleep during the evening. I usually sleep about 12 hours at least once over the weekend.

I usually keep myself awake to spend some time with special people or to be creative, or stupidly. I usually employ any methods to get a good night’s rest because I’m pretty irresponsible that way.

    Working on it, I promise.
