The first time I read a blog post by Tess Marshall I was blown away by her insight, thoroughness, and generosity of spirit. Her eBook, Take Your Fear and Shove It, is everything I imagined it would be. Tess explores all aspects of fear, and helps us understand it, challenge it, and act in spite of it to live the lives we dream about. With action steps and worksheets throughout, Take Your Fear and Shove It provides a detailed road map to move beyond the limitations we consciously or subconsciously set for ourselves.

Hi Tess,
I was struck with your newsletter today. Truly helpful perspective and words we all need to hear spoken over and over, “I won’t detach from my truth. Personal Kaizen is in one way very different than the BOLD approach. But it deals very forcefully with the idea of Fear stripping us from out ability to change and move forward. We trick the brain which, as a psychologist you know, is hard-wired to fear change. We make our changes so small and so consistently that in no time habits have been changed, goals reached, with out triggering the fight or flight reaction and the brain (HA) is none the wiser! I find the two approaches equally valuable and infinitely fascinating. In either case, our truth is our dignity, and no one has the right to disarm us! Thank you, Tess.

Tess-
I think this website/blog is a breath of fresh air.I have only been here a short while but i consider this a refuge or safehouse from the fear gremlins that lurk everywhere.
Actually I am working with a therapist and am heartened by the baby steps I take most days in combatting anxiety and fear. And I find comfort “in numbers” meaning your site demonstrates that I am not alone in this by any means. By the way, I am 59 and started running at 47. I have done a number of marathons and a couple of ultras. In a previous comment I described running as moving meditation. I can get in a zone and feel the endorphins and calm that comes over me after a long run. It is truly therapeutic.

Finally, I often read and reread articles or the essays on your site as a way to calm down or diminish the anxiety and negativity that can creep in so easily. I particularly love the lists of affirmations that are like best friends. So, thank you, thank you for this generous and beautiful gift not to mention the enormous time you commit to being bold.

Joel,
This is the nicest comment I’ve ever received! Good for you for seeing a therapist. So many people avoid that major step.

Marathons and ultras, oh my! That’s simply amazing. I won’t even do an entire marathon. I don’t like pain. LOL

It’s very time consuming to keep this blog going. I would say it’s like an ultra that never ends!

I can only say you’re welcome. You’re welcome. You’re welcome. Keep on keepin’ on. It sounds like you’re doing great. What a way to live life. You’re an example to all!
