Happiness Is The Way

ur mind tries to convince us at times that when we get this new purchase or new relationship we will be happy, however happiness is in the here and now. We don’t need to do anything to be happy. We need to be happy. Of course this doesn’t mean we don’t need to ever do anything or strive for anything. As I shared above, I wanted to live in the countryside and following that desire has made me feel good and in alignment with my desires.

“There is no way to happiness. Happiness is the way.” Wayne Dyer

Being happy is one of the most important things we can do for ourselves and others. In days gone by happiness wasn’t always top of peoples agendas and today some people still think happiness is a flimsy pursuit. Everyone has different world views and of course is entitled to their own opinion but more and more I am coming to believe happiness is one of the most important things in life for ourselves and the world around us.

Find Out What Makes You Happy

What makes you happy will probably be different to what makes the next person happy. Getting to know yourself and your authentic desires is important. We are constantly inundated with messages about how we should be living our lives. Society, advertising and other people’s opinions can all be a strong influence. Do whatever it takes to get in touch with your own voice. Meditation, spending time alone and writing are ways that I have found effective. You may have different ways. Finding ways to get in touch with your own voice is part of the process of getting to know yourself.

What makes you happy?

Follow Your Bliss

As you start to get in touch with what makes you happy, learn to follow those instincts. I was born just outside London . I love London, but deep down I always felt like I would enjoy country living more than city life. I didn’t know if I would enjoy this in reality as I hadn’t lived in the country side before, but a couple of years ago I took the leap and left London to live in the countryside (and near the sea ). I never looked back; I love where I live now. At times in London I wondered if I was running away or always looking for something else but deep down I know these desires were the authentic whisperings of my soul and I am really glad I listened to them.

What are the authentic whisperings of your soul?

Happiness Isn't Selfish

Sometimes people think being happy is selfish. It isn’t! The more we can be happy with our own lives the more difference we can make to others. For a start, happy people are nicer to be around than unhappy ones! Happiness spreads. You can make more difference to others when you are happy. You are then coming from a place of power. Authentic happiness doesn’t take anything away from anyone else. There is no shortage of happiness in the world. We don’t need to feel guilty for being happy or suppress it because someone else isn’t happy. If someone else is unhappy it is important to stay centered. Taking on their unhappiness will only drag both of you down. We can be sympathetic and understanding without losing our own center.

Allow Happiness

I have often read that we need to allow happiness rather than strive or try to create it. I think this makes a lot of sense. Happiness is our natural state. Our thoughts, anxieties, bad habits and day to day concerns can get in the way but we can learn to remove blockages and let happiness in and allow it. Emotional Freedom Technique is a great way to remove blockages and move past negativity.

What can you let go of today to allow happiness?

Happiness Is In The Present

As the quote at the beginning of this article points out, there is no way to happiness; happiness is the way. Our mind tries to convince us at times that when we get this new purchase or new relationship we will be happy, however happiness is in the here and now. We don’t need to do anything to be happy. We need to be happy. Of course this doesn’t mean we don’t need to ever do anything or strive for anything. As I shared above, I wanted to live in the countryside and following that desire has made me feel good and in alignment with my desires. It can seem hard to be happy when we want to be somewhere else, but if we try and release anxiety and trust the process whilst being happy we are more likely to get where we want to be. Like attracts like.

Let yourself be happy right now.

I'd love to hear about your experiences with happiness and what makes you happy.

When I live in the present light dispels all darkness.

When I live in the present I am fearless and free.

When I live in the present doors of opportunity swing open on their hinges with the momentum of unlimited opportunities.
When I live in the present I am creating the amazing life I choose.

Living in the present moment richness and awareness to our lives, yet we choose to live in the future or the past most of the time.

Instead of telling you how to live in and experience the "magic of this moment" I invite you to examine your own moments and increase them exponentially.

Below is my experience of living in the magic of the present moment.

When I live in the present moment I am joy in expression.

When I live in the present moment I avoid worry about the future.

When I live in the present moment I enjoy the taste of one sweet red raspberry.

When I live in the present moment I am grateful and appreciative.

When I live in the present moment I am peaceful and calm.

When I live in the present moment I lose all sense of time.

When I live in the present moment there is no story about conflict or fear.

When I live in the present moment I feel Spirit all around me.

When I live in the present moment nature becomes breath taking.

When I live in the present moment my intuition is loud and clear.

When I live in the present moment I can only love and feel loved.

When I live in the present moment I hear my soul sing.

When I live in the present moment no task is too daunting.

When I live in the present moment every cell in my body awakens.

When I live in the present moment I understand the mysetery of life.

When I live in the present moment my heart breaks open.

When I live in the present moment my mind is quiet.

When I live in the present moment I am at my best.

When I live in the present moment light dispels all darkness.

When I live in the present moment I am happy, joyful and free.

When I live in the present moment doors of opportunity swing open on their hinges with the momentum of unlimited opportunities.

When I live in the present moment I am creating the amazing person I was born to be and the awesome life I was meant to live.

Together, let's decide today that we will just "be" in the present moment.

What does present moment living do for you?

She gives us real life "stuff"  all from the bottom of her very gigantic heart.

“Live is either a daring adventure or nothing.” -Helen Keller

My daughter Kristy is in Mexico swimming with the dolphins. She posted this on Facebook three hours ago. I couldn’t resist sharing it with you. When I look at this photo I see present moment joy.

Kristy is my daughter who is physically challenged. She was born without most of her right hand. She has never let that hold her back.  In fact, she is a triathlete.

Her first triathlon was in Monterey California three years ago. The first even is swimming and I stood on the beach with the anxiety only a mom would recognize.

There are hundreds of swimmers who all jump in and go at once. Kristy swam through kelp and at one time another athlete swam right over her. She also fell when they had to get out of the water to run around a cone and swim another round.

But things like that don’t stop Kristy. They make her more determined.

Last Sunday Kristy and I ran a 1/2 marathon together. She was kind enough to hold back and run with me and offer moral support. I told her to go ahead I’d be fine. She answered “mom, I’m here to create a memory. If I run ahead I won’t have one.”

When I discovered she was going on vacation to Mexico with her friend Dana I said, “But don’t you know Mexico is dangerous? Haven’t you heard what’s going on there?” She replied, “Oh mom, we’ll be fine.”

And as you can see in the photo she is!

My lesson: Don’t project my fears on my daughter!

What about you, what holds you back?
What makes you more determined?
If there is a lesson to be learned what is yours?
