Gratitude Is the Opposite of Fear

Gratitude radiates out from me in all directions, touching everything in my world, and returns to me as more to be grateful for. The more gratitude I feel, the more I am aware that the supply is endless. ~ Louise Hay

Gratitude is a magical potion that dissolves jealousy, greed, fear, unhappiness and other dis-ease's of the ego. Gratitude is an emotion that opens our hearts and raises us above negativity, worry, and doubt.

I invite you to commit a portion of your day to feeling and expressing gratitude and appreciation.

More benefits of gratitude include:

  • Gratitude increases your happiness by 25%.

  • Gratitude has a positive effect on your mental and physical health.

  • Gratitude takes you out of your ego and into your heart.

  • Gratitude places you in the flow and dissolves scarcity and lack.

  • Gratitude recharges your soul and manifests miracles.

What you focus on expands, and when you focus on the goodness in your life, you create more of it. Opportunities, relationships, even money flowed my way when I learned to be grateful no matter what happened in my life. ~ Oprah Winfrey

1. Be thankful in advance.

There is a natural order to things in the world. When you believe things will work out, they do. No matter what is going on in your life today, become grateful in advance. Act as if there were nothing wrong with your life. Believe that the universe is plotting to do you good.

Gratefulness is the key to a happy life that we hold in our hands, because if we are not grateful, then no matter how much we have we will not be happy — because we will always want to have something else or something more. ~ David Steindl-Rast

2. Align with the positive.

Think positive thoughts. Speak positive words. Take positive action. Choose to surround yourself with positive people. When you align with the positive your life overflows with love.

Even after all this time the sun never says to the earth “you own me” look what happens with a love like that—it lights the whole world. Hafiz

3. Celebrate what is right with the world.

Summon gratitude by paying attention to the beauty that surrounds you. Make a daily list of what you do right and what goes right in your life. Celebrate it all. Forget the rest.

Every fall that you take is a gift, and every relapse is a glorious opportunity — after all, without them you can’t manifest the energy to get to a higher place. ~ Dr. Wayne Dyer

4. Give thanks for the negative.

See difficulties as opportunities. You always have the option to move forward, to grow, and to become a better human being. Negative people teach you compassion and forgiveness. Negative situations teach you patience and understanding. Bless it all.

5. Be grateful to the people in your life.

I think that number 4 is the hardest, although I know that it is true. Seeing the value of the negative things in our lives can be a real challenge. It reminds me of the apple trees that were grown inside of a biosphere dome. Perfect conditions were provided except one – wind. No one thought to provide wind which strengthens the stems so the apples all fell off of the trees before it reached full size or ripened. We need resistance in our lives so that we may strengthen our selves.

      Dan,
What a great story. We do need to know how strong we really are don’t we?
      Happy Thanksgiving!

Lovely post, Tess. Thank you for the reminder! I have been practicing listing things I’m grateful for every morning. I’ve done it for a couple of months now, and I feel so much more aware of the positive elements of my life now.

    Tess,

I love the idea of being grateful in advance! That’s never occurred to quite in the way you’ve expressed it here. Thanks for expanding my gratitude toolbox!

    Hi Tess,
I am happy and grateful to have read your article. I am a huge proponent of gratitude and have brought it into my life more and more over the years and have found it to be an enormous blessing. #1 on your list goes hand in hand with trusting and having faith in the Universal Good and the truth that everything is in perfect order and divine timing! … It’s not always easy to do when we have uncertainty, but oh so worth it to live in this space.

  • Elle November 20, 2012, 10:56 am

Wow, this one is a keeper for me Tess. It is so well said and totally in alignment with where I am in the world. And the quotes you’ve chosen are just so…well perfect.

Aaah my heart has opened a little more today, thanks to you.

    Love Elle
    xoxo

Wonderful article. I try and consciously keep track of all my blessings by writing in a gratitude journal every night. It’s incredible what a wonderful warm, fuzzy feeling I get just before closing my eyes to sleep.I also read an incredible book (a true story) called 365 Thank Yous which showed how the simple daily act of gratitude literally changed a mans life; turned it around 360º. I strongly recommend it; it also makes a lovely gift 😉

Hmm, I thought I had left a comment, but maybe I didn’t hit the right button! Anyway, I agree with Sandra about loving the idea of being grateful in advance. That is delightful!

My spiritual community is in the middle of a 21-day gratitude journaling project, and it is so profound! I find myself wandering around naming the things I’m grateful for–so, so much. Thanks for another great reminder about the power of gratitude!
