Face Your Fear And Grab The Trapeze Bar

by Tess

Allow yourself to be encouraged and inspired!

I'm fooled by the illusion of comfort,
security, and safety, thus far.
Fear keeps me clutching to the trapeze bar.

Heart pounding, palms sweating,
I ponder my thoughts
"I can't, what if, and it's time to let go,"
as I continue to question and swing to and fro.

As the delusion of limitation begins to fade away,
It's no longer an option, it's to painful to stay.
I must  move on, take a risk, and a chance.
I leap, I smile, I'm ready to dance.

I choose transition, courage and change.
The option to blossom, bloom, and grow.
I trust, I breathe, and I get ready to go.

Nothing stands in my way as I put fear in it's place.
The bar swings towards me as I leap into the space.
Dreams, possibility, success, "Oh my!"
With honor and glory I feel myself fly!

Tess xo

What risk will you take today? When is the last time you felt yourself fly?

Tess….I love the image of the trapeze and your phrase ‘I’m fooled by the illusion of comfort’.
As I’m sitting with my work laid out in front of me for today, your question about what risk I’m going to take today is an excellent one.
The truth is this….I’ve been hiding from a dream that I’ve been dreaming about for a LONG time because I thought it was frivolous and impossible to attain. It took the form of “if I had one wish to do whatever I wanted, what would it be?’ I now realize that I need to pursue this dream…not exclusively but as part of the tapestry I’m creating on my journey through this life.
In order for me to begin taking steps today, I will need to do some meditating and creative visualization. So…a big thanks for nudging me to move forward on it. xxoo-Fran

Hi Fran,
I’m happy to know my question helped you. Are you reading Martha Beck’s latest book. I think those exercises on imagining would be good to do! I’m trying them.

:-) This is beautifully lyrical. I am imagining this as a song, in a strong voice. I am contemplating letting go of a client today. I am trying to find the courage to do it, because letting go will be risking loss of income and finding a new one :-)

Thank you for the encouragement, Tess. You’re a wonderful mood-upper!

Love, Vidya

Vidya,
It’s not an easy thing to do…let go of a paying client. However you’ll be making room for one that is a better for you and releasing the client to someone who is a better fit as well.

Wow Tess. Beautifully said. I loved this “As the delusion of limitation begins to fade away, It’s no longer an option, it’s to painful to stay.”

I have to say to myself sometimes…what if you ‘knew’ it was easy and yes you could?” Just as a reminder that limitations are my very own illusion. Are you a mind reader too? :-)

I recently watched a squirrel leap off my roof into space and barely make it to the end of the branch. In fact, I wrote about it in a guest post that will be appearing in the next couple of weeks. It was very much like watching a trapeze artist leap with perfect timing for the bar. Great analogy, especially for me as I am so afraid of heights! Working on it!!

Galen,
Good for you! Just keep exposing yourself to a reach a little higher each time and you’ll lose your fear in no time. xo

Trapeze is too much fun – if it wasn’t more affordable I would go more often!

I haven’t felt myself fly in years… I feel I’ve castrated myself – I’ve done many things which would imply a feeling of flying – starting a business, skydiving, and so on, but until recently I’ve under-attached myself to outcomes. In the service of developing ‘maturity’ I’ve felt little fear or anxiety, but also little jubilation or exhilaration.

Strange as it may sound, I’m working on adding rather than removing fear into my life.

Amit,
I think adding fear is good. It sounds like you’re moving toward fear. If we don’t have fear we’re not stretching and growing. You go!

This is so beautiful! I love the concept in the video of moving toward loving and living in the space in between the bars. We try to grab onto each bar and hold on so tightly for our “illusion of comfort, security, and safety” rather than relishing the time of change and growth in between.

What if we could change our own internal thinking and feeling in such a way that we yearn for the next in-between space and fear the bars…..

Thank you so much for this new perspective Tess!!

Big Big Hugs!!

OK Paige. I’m up for the challenge. I’m “yearning” for the next bar, opportunity, etc! Woo hoo! xo

Hey Tess,
Love this- nice imagery. I know those feelings of “It’s no longer an option, it’s to painful to stay.” and learning the timing life to learn to jump before it starts to get painful…
I had an experience coasteering when I was on the edge of a cliff wanting to jump but not quite ready to go…and then letting go and I stepped out over the edge!
It taught me alot about my growth..;)

Today I am starting my new cheesecake business. I have been tinkering around with this for years, today I dive in completely. I feel as though I have just let go of my trapeze bar and am flying across the room, but I also have confidence someone will be there to catch me before I fall.

Beautiful and inspiring – this was absolutely the kind of lift I needed right now. I definitely love that image, taking the leap, completing the connection. That moment hanging in the air is so scary, but scoring the landing is utterly worth it.

Holy Smokes Tess! You had me glued to this video! The words, the images, the message, your words – POWERFUL!

Many of us feel that the “fear” we feel is something different than those who dare and risk. Those who enter the space without bars feel it too – but chose another perspective.

This is one of my all time favorite posts ever. Just bookmarked it so I can continue to find it and be reminded.

Thank You for this post!
