(Miss Artemis' full interview can be read at https://dissertationmasters.com/.)

Our guest today is Angela Artemis, a blogger, intuitive consultant and medium. She's also a financial salesperson experienced in financial planning, private banking and real estate finance. Her ability to navigate a demanding finance career while developing psychically have given her a reputation as a very grounded and practical metaphysician. Her website is Powered by Intuition  where she writes about developing intuition in order to solve problems, find solutions, and receive guidance for your life. She is also the director of marketing for The Daily Brainstorm.

What inspired you to start Powered By Intuition?

I felt the need to share what I've learned over the years about intuition. And, I wanted to give people the tools to access their intuition and put it to good practical use in their lives on their own – without having to go to a psychic. I'm all about being practical! It has to help you life in some way, or it's really of no value. Your intuition can be incredibly useful once you start developing it.

I've been using it in business for years. In the morning I make a list of the potential clients and referral sources I can contact that day – then I allow my intuition to help me choose who will be most receptive to my call.

I call only those people – and you'd be amazed at how many of them say, "I've been meaning to call you." There are so many ways to employ intuition in our lives – this list is only limited by the limits of our imagination.

How do we get clear enough in our own lives or minds to receive guidance from a higher intelligence?

I cannot recommend meditation highly enough. It's the most valuable thing I've ever learned in my life. You need to make time every day to allow you mind to "settle-down" as my guru used to say.

If you're mind is constantly racing and bombarded with thoughts you'll never hear that small still voice within you that is your intuition. The reason why meditation is so powerful for developing intuition is because the more you meditate the more centered you become.

When you're centered – your thoughts are balanced. You're not being pulled to the past with regrets, anger and remorse over what's happened, and you're not being pulled into the future where your happiness is tied to accomplishing future goals.

Your living in the present moment. When you live fully in the present your thinking slows down naturally – no more racing thoughts – so, your intuition comes through more easily and more often.

What’s the difference between a clairvoyant and a medium?

Psychics have differing extra-sensory abilities – among them is clairvoyance. There are actually a number of "clairs."

A clairvoyant – "sees" visions in their mind's eye. They can see things that aren't physically present. In recent years the term clairvoyance has become interchangeable with "remote viewing."

If a psychic has clairvoyant ability many of the answers for the person being read will come as pictures, scenes, or symbols to their mind's eye.

Many people have clairvoyant ability, but just aren't aware of it. For example have you ever been on the phone with someone you've never met and gotten a "picture" of what they look like in your mind's eye? Have you met them and been startled to find they look a lot like what you'd seen? That's clairvoyance, or remote viewing.

We all do it to some degree! It's just a matter of awareness and practice.

A medium – is able to communicate with the spirits of people who've died. A medium uses telepathy to communicate with a discarnate (no longer in the body) soul. Telepathy is mind to mind communication. You can be a medium and be clairvoyant, but being clairvoyant/psychic doesn't necessarily mean you're also mediumistic.

At times when I'm doing a reading aside from getting information clairvoyantly, I may hear a sentence, a name or individual words – that's clairaudience.

Or, I may get a a feeling in my body, or a strong emotion that expresses the information I'm trying to convey – that's clairsentience.

And, sometimes I just know something to be true – that's claircognizance.

Help us understand what a reading is and what we do with the information once acquired?

A mediumship reading is where we connect with someone we've lost. It's verification that our consciousness survives death and that we will be reunited with our loved ones when we cross over someday too. When you've been reunited with someone you've lost you'll feel their love or presence during the reading.

A psychic reading is when the person has specific questions, or wants guidance about their life. I worked for a short time for one of the psychic hotlines and one evening a woman called and wanted to know when her lover was going to leave his wife and get a divorce.

I immediately knew that she only wanted to hear – what she wanted to hear. In reading her cards I could see this man was only stringing her along and had no intention of leaving his wife. I was as gentle and kind with her as I could be, but she started arguing with me! I knew she had reservations about the relationship she wasn't acknowledging to herself – otherwise why was she calling a psychic?

The point is to do something with the information and to use it to make your life better – otherwise what's the point of having a reading if you don't use the information given?

What’s the purpose of knowing who our guides are? Can’t we be in touch and get guidance without knowing specifics?

I'm not really aware of my guides, and I'm not into angels either. You don't have to be. I know a lot of people talk about their guides, and knowing their names, etc., but it really isn't necessary. If they come to you easily – then great. If they don't – don't put a lot of extra stress on yourself trying to make a connection. For me it's never been really important.

Maybe being a banker and a no-nonsense type of personality – my guides[?] assumed I might not accept them, so they haven't really shown themselves to me – lol!  As long as the information comes – I don't question who, or what gave it me! (except in the case of mediumship – then I know it came from the deceased telepathically)

What about your life will I not find on your bio or about page?

I started reading the Tarot when I was 10. I had the strangest compulsion to acquire decks of playing cards when I was little, but I didn't know why.

It was kind of like the Spielberg movie, Encounters of The Third Kind. Every time I went to any store with my mother I begged her to buy me decks of cards with pictures on them.

I had the Patti Duke cards, Old Maid cards, Crazy Eights cards, you name it. But, when we'd get home and I'd open the pack I was always disappointed and I didn't know why! Only when I finally got a deck of Tarot cards did the compulsion cease. As soon as I got them I "knew" what to do with them.

What is your best advice for someone who is new on this journey? Where do they begin?

I would make some time to meditate each day. That will get your intuitive juices flowing like nothing else. One other thing you can do that's really easy to start off with and doesn't require much extra time is to become aware of you dreams.

Start recording them and checking back periodically to see if anything transpired that your dreams might have predicted. I have several posts on dreams – and how to remember your dreams on my site if anyone needs more complete directions. Once you set the intention to remember your dreams -you will start remembering them – and you'll see that you get all kinds of guidance and insights for your life right from your dreams.

Is there a defining moment in your life that changed everything?

A few years ago I had an encounter in my living room with a spirit. I honestly hadn't realized I was a medium, nor had I ever had any interest in mediumship up until that point. After this event I decided I'd better look into what was happening to me.

I've been developing my mediumship ever since. It made me aware of the continuation of life in such a concrete way that I no longer have any doubt about it. I now want to share that with other people as well. When you know that while the physical body may die, your consciousness will not it changes the way you look at life. You can no longer live irresponsibly – everything you do matters and has consequences.

What legacy will you leave behind?

I hope to be able to say that I "freed imprisoned minds" by stretching the limits of awareness of what's possible.

How wonderful to see Angela featured here today! What a great interview too! I like how it takes the mystery and “hocus pocus” from the subject and how it shows that using our other senses and resources available is not mumbo jumbo for certain folks but stuff we can all tap into and utilize in our day to day lives. Meditation and dream work are excellent ways to enrich our lives and develop the skills to work with energies others may not be aware of. Great post, ladies!! Thank you. :)

Dear Tess and Angels, This is amaaaazing! It was a lot like reading about myself, and was just fantastic confirmation for me.

RE: “I’m not really aware of my guides, and I’m not into angels either. You don’t have to be. I know a lot of people talk about their guides, and knowing their names, etc., but it really isn’t necessary.” (I LOVE this women!! i love you Angela. :) And so relate to this.) And, like you, I am also totally open when people DO have some specific guide. In my case I feel sooooooo much, everything, that the whole of existence is my guide, my teacher and my source of Information, healing, and Love. It’s everywhere I look, and there is so much that it usually blurs into one great Interconnected Whole, which I too am part of, and that is why I hear, feel and see it. We all are connected and can access everything that is, ever was and ever will be. Life is astounding and I love seeing what different souls access. Just mind blowing! :)

Dear TESS!!! I just love how you are so open to SO many people and varied different ways of living and experiencing the world. It’s brilliant. I just love that about you. Thank you for having Angela, I added her site to my RSS feed. Just wonerful.

My love and deep gratitude to you both,
    Robin

My ten year old is very interested in having a reading done – her palm, he cards… and I am hesitant though I am not sure exactly why. I have had my cards read and my palm… The information is interesting and it is about opening ht emend that much more.
Hearing that little voice – trusting the gut – key to so much.

This is such a fascinating interview, Tess and Angela! I know nothing about being a medium or being clairvoyant, but I’m a big proponent of mediation in order to feel centered and I heartily encourage relying on intuition for guidance.

I really enjoyed learning more about you, Angela!

Tess, thanks so much for hosting me on you site today. I really appreciate it!

    Hi Emma,
So nice to “see” you here! I’m glad you enjoyed reading the interview and found it to a “no hocus-pocus” view of the top of extra sensory perception. I’m not the hocus-pocus sort! I wear suit and carry a big heavy briefcase to my office! lol!

    Hi Robin,
I’m so glad you can relate! I too feel that I see “signs” everywhere leading and guiding me. It they were supplied by my “guides” – fine! If not, I do believe I’m receiving information from somewhere all the time. Afterall – the human body is a walking receiver of all kinds of input constantly, so why not ESP?

    Hi Exception,
If your 10- yr old wants a reading – may I ask why? Are there problems he/she feels he/she needs answers too? I’d say to buy him/her a deck of Tarot and let her learn to get her own answers instead. This way your child will learn that all answers come from within.

    Hi Belinda,
I’m glad you enjoyed the interview. Meditation is #1 way to access our inner genius on all levels – even if you have no desire to develop your intuition you can still be guided and inspired through the ideas you receive in meditation, as I’m sure you know being a long time meditator Belinda.

I really appreciate this post. It’s nice to see a straight-forward discussion on the subject. Being very intuitive and having had the experience of hearing people speak to me when nobody is around, I’ve always found this subject fascinating. IT hit me as I read this — I can do this too! Now I just have to commit to daily meditation — a long term desire, but inconsistent practice! Thanks for the motivation.

    Hi Michael,
You’re a clairaudient. That’s a very special ability – much rarer than clairsentience, or clairvoyance. Meditation will heighten this ability. Go for it! Many mediums are clairaudient. Let me know how you develop – and please feel free to contact me if I can ever be of help to you in anyway!

    Hi Jean,
It was such a pleasure to answer Tess’s questions. I could take my time and think about what I wanted to say. It’s a very pleasant way to conduct an interview!

Hi Angela. I really enjoyed your answers. Although my guide is important to me, I like your answer about guides. Intuition is the voice of consciousness and spirit and guides are at home in that field. So should we be. And I agree meditation is the best exercise for connecting with spirit and developing intuition. It’s laziness that prevents peopel from meditataing with a purpose. Lazy thinking is holding us back. Lovely to see you, and thank you Tess.

I’m so glad you enjoyed the interview. Tess does a marvelous job with her questions! I tried for years to contact my “guides,” but I’ve never had much success, so I finally decided it wasn’t meant to be! I decided it wasn’t important to me because focusing on the lack of having them made me less effective – But, if you’re able to work with yours – I think it’s great.

I am so glad to see you here. Tess’ questions are great–you have such a natural quality about you…I *love* that you suggest meditation as a way to center. I think in general people are afraid of the unknown, and mediums and intuitives tend to fall into that fear filled space..when really we may all be quiet enough to access our inner wisdom and open our hearts enough to outside guidance..

My parents were very hostile about non-tangible things…my mother was extremely practical and did not fantasize and thought that was normal.
I told myself stories all the time because I was not mathematical or logical in my thinking at all.

When my youngest child was most troubled in college, I gave her a psychic reading which was just right for her…about 15 minutes and affirmed that she would have a special guy but told her she would be very accomplished and make lots of money herself and not be dependent – this just opened the door to her working at succeeding at college and finding a career that she liked.

Last year for her birthday she had a palm reading…this pulled her gifts in music back into her life….though she has given it up again for lack of piano space in her life right now…but she is learning how to make money!

when my oldest mathematical child came back from a year in Denmark, she had a psychic reading and it assisted her in re-entering her life in the USA and finding a college/passing the SATs…with confidence after speaking Danish for a year…to know she would get a perfect score was relieving to her…

I am trying to broaden my horizons now but looking at my life from different angles and possibilities – opening up ideas

a number of years ago, I had a reading for my birthday each year…but until she was martyred in Palestine, the psychic would switch gears and tell me about Rachel’s life instead of mine….I did not know what to share with Rachel or her mother, but everything that psychic told me for my 40th birthday happened to Rachel and she is now dead…you can even Google Rachel Corrie and find our about her life and energies…

Through meditation I can now often recognize other peoples emotions…I am told this is empathetic….I am exploring my relationship to healing
Very interesting post – thank you both for sharing so graciously and clearly

    Cool post, Tess and Angela.

I love the Q&A format – good questions opened the door for us to get a sense of who Angela is and how she works. Angela, I love your directness which is always delivered with warmth and kindness. (Easy to feel from your words on your blog.)

Although intuitives share some commonalities, the gifts express themselves differently in everyone. I’m clairaudient and I can basically take dictation from someone’s Guides in Spirit to help them in a very practical way. I have also done mediumistic work and find that to be very gratifying because letting others know that their loved ones are really all around brings comfort.

I believe we all have these gifts in one way or another and the choice to open to them (or not!) is always ours to make.

    Thanks, Tess for the post!

Hi, Angela, and Tess, and even Simon :)

What wonderful interview questions, Tess. Simon, thank you for your voice, here, too.

Angela, I love your matter-of-fact attitude! It’s interesting how, now that I’ve been away from the 8-5 work world for awhile, I’ve found so many people who talk freely about their abilities. It makes me feel like I’ve come home. :) Now, I’m able to talk more comfortably with “nonbelievers” about my own nascent “clairs”: -audience, -voyance, -cognizance, and -sentience. I’ve even had a few mediumship experiences; one of those was confirmed a month later by our friend Simon. :) And, like Robin, I notice signs everywhere; my eyes hear and ears, see. Knowing becomes a whole-body experience that needs no words. (The hard part is translating that into language!) It’s *amazing* the way the world speaks to us when we engage our creative selves. The world communes with us all the time—and we with it.

Most of my loved ones are decidedly not open-minded. It’s been uncomfortable to hide one of the most treasured aspects of myself. That’s why I say, now, that you (and Simon and others I’ve found) give life to others in ways you may not have known. Just by sharing who you are, you lift and encourage the rest of us to express who we are, too, no matter what it is we do. Our world is richer for it!

    Hi Evita,
it’s lovely to meet you! I agree w/you. It’s really all of us expanding our individual consciousness. Isn’t that what we call evolution anyway? All of humanity grows when we expand the limits of what we call our reality. Thanks Evita!

    Hi Brenda,
I’m so glad you enjoyed the interview. It’s fascinating to hear that you were so open to mediumship 26 years ago! I was rather skeptical until it happened to me! I’m so glad you feel the urge to meditate again too!

    Hi Joy,
I’m very happy that the interview showed that there’s absolutely nothing to be afraid of. You know, I think this is all very natural. It’s like electricity before we knew how to harness it. I feel it’s the same with ESP and Mediumship. It’s something natural we just can’t yet explain.

Patricia, it sounds like you’re an empath, which is also what we might call clairsentience. I’m glad your meditating and developing your abilities. It sounds as if you’re on your way to broader horizons. That’s very exciting!

Lisa, that’s an awesome clairaudient ability you have – taking dictation! Wow!
I don’t think many people could say that! I’m sure that must be very gratifying to be able to hear so clearly. You go girl!

Rob – now you know I’m just a riddle, wrapped up in a riddle, within a riddle! lol!
Glad you enjoyed the interview & it’s good to see you here!

Julie, I love how you put that: The world communes with us all the time – and we with it. I think you just about summed up the entire ESP experience. Our body is just one walking talking antennae picking up all kinds of signals and signs!

And second, what do you call it when dreams give us premonition into the future – the state of dreams and how they weave into our future or our past – amazes me beyond words – and my dreams on more than one occasion have exactly predicted the future…..

    Hi Sandra,
Thank you so much – now I understand what you referring to in your tweet~! lol. Yes, I much prefer to give readings that help someone grow into their full potential, rather than predict the future. The future is not set by the way, we are continually making adjustments to probable outcomes with every thought and action we take. Take the character Scrooge – the day before his dream his future would have been miserable and miserly, but the day after his dream he was a changed man with an open heart. His future had changed.

    Hi Farnoosh,
It’s so funny just yesterday I was thinking I should put some good books on my site for people to read about intuition. (I should write one…..as soon as I have the time!). I will look through my books and email you…..I have so many favorite books it’s hard for me to give you just one suggestion.

When a dream predicts the future it’s called a precognitive dream. Pre- meaning before and cognitive – knowing. You knew something before it happened. A lot of people become aware of their psychic capabilities from their dreams. If you’re a busy person and one who uses their left brain a lot in their life – your mind may be too busy to get the signals during the day. But, at night when you’re dreaming the message is heard loud and clear. This is why meditation is so important.
