There Is Beauty In The World

I found this video on Jill's blog and fell in love with it! Jill is mom to 6 beautiful kids and wife to my her best friend, Alan. Jill lives a truthful & free-spirited life.

Please add your beauty in today's comments.

I couldn't possibly list all of the beauty I find in the world. This is the beginning in no particular order.

1. The aides who work with my aging mother for minimum wage. They tell me they love her. She’s their favorite patient.

2. Volunteers and other selfless people. When I give freely of my time to those in need I always walk away thinking, “I don’t have problems only minor inconveniences.”

3. Bloggers who extend a helping hand to newbies.

4. Children. Where there is a child there is joy, laughter and innocence.

5. Strangers who pay it forward, adding kindness and love to our world. Hundreds of millions of people do small acts of kindness daily.

6. Happy couples. They are shining examples that happy relationships are possible.

7. Triathlons and Races. A small percent of the population push themselves to their limits. They are inspirational and motivation. You can’t watch an event and be unhappy.

8. Sights and sounds of the city. I love to see people walking, talking, out and about in a park, eating lunch or attending an outdoor concert.

9. Road construction. I love to see people working outdoors in hard hats, sweating and making transportation easier for everyone. I silently bless them and wave as I pass by.

10. Water. I find beauty in our lakes, oceans, drinking water, bathing water, and fields being irrigated.

11. Theater. I saw the Lion King three times. It brings up every emotion. The beauty of the characters, the costumes and the music…joy, joy, joy.

12. People who work with children. Coaches, Scout leaders, PTA members and more…people who are selfless believing in children and investing in our future.

13. Friends. They love me and want the best for me. They love me in spite of my flaws.

14. My support group. They challenge me, accept me and encourage me to grow. I find peace and unconditional love in their presence.

15. My teachers. Jacob Glass, Marianne Williamson, Michael Beckwith, Echart Tolle, Oprah, Karen Van Allen.

16. Freedom. I have the freedom to create my world exactly like I want it. The freedom of choice, speech, love, movement…the list is limitless.

17. My home. It’s my shelter, my peaceful place and it’s filled with love and simplicity.

18. Music.  Music transports us to different places, different levels and stirs every emotion.

19. Nature. I love the silence, the peace, and the healing that takes place when I immerse myself in nature. One can’t be unhappy at the ocean, in the mountains,  or in a field of wheat or flowers.

20. The Ellen Show. I find her exuding laughter and fun. She’s sincere and generous.

21. The internet and the beauty of connection it allows with people all over the world.

22. Oneness. The idea that I am you and you are me. It’s a beautiful thing when we can accept rather than judge.

23. Unsung heroes. My daughter, Kara recently applied CPR to a man in distress and saved his life.

24. The Farmer’s Market. I love the smells, the color, the sounds. It’s a happy place and I love purchasing the freshest food and flowers.

25. Inner Beauty. It's the beauty I have inside that allows me to see outside of myself. Do you realize how powerful and amazing this is?

26. Flowers.Humans feel such fascination for and affinity with flowers’ ethereal qualities. They have provided inspiration to countless artists, poets, and mystics.” –Echart Tolle

27. Higher Education. I wouldn't be who I am or where I am today without it.

28. Miracles. “A Course in Miracles” states a miracle is a shift in perception and the holiest place on earth is where a grievance has been healed. There is so much power and potential in shifting your perception. The reward is inner peace.

29. Food. I find beauty in the variety, the taste, the color and the nutrition of good food.

30. Gratitude Journals. Today more than ever people are aware of the power of gratitude.

31. Meditation.  Sitting in silence allows one to live in this world from the inside out.

32. Community. There are 7 billion people in the world, if I’m willing to reach out I can have the support I need.

33. Wisdom. I have ability to listen to my inner voice and make the best use of that knowledge.

34. Healers. There is beauty in the traditional and non-traditional healers who are sharing their gifts with the world.

35. The Airline Industry. To know we can fly anywhere at anytime is amazing. To move beyond the nuisance of security, long lines, and minor inconveniences and be on a journey to see the world is truly awesome.

36. Possibility. To know there is unlimited untapped human potential is mind blowing. I have the Divine in my DNA and so do you!

37. Coffee. I love it. There is beauty in friends gathering together at coffee shops.

38. Skype. The ability to connect with my grandson: play hide-and-seek, sing, read and laugh with him. He is a toddler, I live across the country.

39. My body. The miracle of my body;from the blink of an eye to running a half marathon is simply beautiful.

40. Art. I love all art forms. Walk into a museum or art gallery and tell me there is no beauty in the world. Impossible!

41. Photographs. I have photos of my family and friends all over my home.

44. Love. To live in a loving state is the both beautiful and healing.

45. Diversity.  To know and appreciate differences adds beauty and peace.

46. Fun. Fun is available to everyone. Incorporate it in everyday.

47. An undefended heart. An open happy heart, it doesn’t get much better than that.

48. Forgiveness. People like Anne Frank and Nelson Mandela have showed us the beauty in forgiveness.

49. A Smile. Something so simple and so easy, it's beautiful. .

50. My family…my hubs, children, grandchildren and sons-in-law, they have given me endless opportunities to forgive, laugh, cry and just be elated with life and love.

I’ve only just begun to list the beauty I witness in our world.

What beauty do you see in the world? How can you add more beauty to your world?

    Hey Tess,

Truly, there is. I am at a point now where I can’t really understand anymore people who don’t see all the beauty in the world. I sometimes think to myself that they must be blind or something, but they’re mostly just stuck in their heads.

  • Tess August 2, 2010, 7:59 am

    Eduard,
Yes I do believe one’s heart needs to be open to recognize beauty. It’s all a matter of choice what we focus on. I want to be in the position where I can see nothing else. Thanks for stopping by. Have a wonderful week.

  • Karl Staib - Work Happy Now August 2, 2010, 8:15 am

    – Little bugs that look like aliens
    – A dog’s unending love
    – My kid’s laugh
    – My wife’s hugs
    – My parents cranky selves because at least they are still to complain.
    – The ability to write
    – Connecting with strangers and making them into friends
    – Laughing at my own jokes
    – Listening to a well told story

Thanks Tess! Just thinking of all these things made me happier.

By the way your list is spot on. Great job!

    My short list of beauty:

    Smiling

Beautiful list, Tess! I’d like to add making and appreciating art in all it’s forms: music, painting, sculpture, literature, etc. Shared laughter and eyes on fire with love. The beauty of the sunset, the glow of the moon, and the shimmer of the stars. A cool breeze on a hot day, and a warm fire on a cool night. Beauty abounds!

    Karl,
Yes there is so much power in reflecting on beauty…it creates more. In todays world it’s easy to get sidetracked and fearful. Hugs and love are always beautiful when given and received with the right intention.

  • Tess The Bold Life August 2, 2010, 3:45 pm

    Lance,
It’s so fun to read your list. Beauty really is endless and all my peeps and all their comments are so beautiful. Hope your marathon training is going well.

    Jill,
Oh you brought back such memories of the little ones and make believe. Our four daughter would spend hours and hours doing this together. One of their favorites was playing church;)

    Jay,
By the looks of your list you must be enjoying So Cal weather. Thanks for adding beauty to my day, my friend.

    Lori,
Would you grab me a cup and bring it over! We can sit on the front porch at my house. I have a swing. JK;)

    Uzma,
Awww, you’re so sweet and thank you! Oh yes rain, here in AZ we just had a few days of rain. First since April!

    Hi Tess,
    I loved this one:
    28. Miracles. “A Course in Miracles” states a miracle is a shift in perception and the holiest place on earth is where a grievance has been healed. There is so much power and potential in shifting your perception. The reward is inner peace.

I’ve been a student of the Course for many years. It’s an amazing work.

    Okay here’s my list:
    1. Hearing the birds chirping in the morning when I wake up

    3. The great and friendly people at Trader Joe’s
    4. Kittens and puppies
    5. My wonderful caring neighbors.

  • Peggy Nolan August 3, 2010, 9:48 am

    Dear Tess,

    Beauty is all around me…

–My Edgar, the Wonder Dog – not only is he a beautiful Border Collie, but even at his 12 1/2 years of age, he is grace in motion. Watching him track imaginary sheep or play frisbee is just beautiful.

–My Family – Beautiful souls enrinching my life

–Yoga – the connection of mind, body, and spirit: what could be more beautiful?

–Flowers – God’s gift in good climates and in some of the most arid, driest places.

–Thai Kickboxing – because there is beauty in being strong, muscular, and sweaty.

–Peas – Yummy, scrumscious, and the color green is beautiful

–Ice cream – just typing it sounds beautiful

–Indulging in my fantasy land of vampires and zombies – ok, maybe not, but watching True Blood is beautiful to me =)

–Coffee – iced, dark roast, one cream. Heaven.

–Doing Nothing – takes beauty to a whole ‘nother level!!

  • Belinda Munoz + THe Halfway Point August 3, 2010, 4:47 pm

I read this yesterday (and loved the Macy Gray video, I’m a fan) but didn’t get a chance to leave a comment. Now, I’m loving reading everyone else’s lists.

I was just talking to someone about the beauty of being able to fly to get to faraway places. So true. The airline industry has literally expanded our horizon.

    My stream of consciousness list…

a support system (friendships, close relatives)
notebooks and pens (because I refuse to write everything electronically)
    conversation
    bird feathers
    bodies of water
    sleep
    tea and its health benefits
    people
    imagination
    and blogs like yours

I could go on and on here but I better stop. Thanks for spreading beauty ’round these parts.

  • Marko -- Calm Growth August 3, 2010, 6:04 pm

This is the one of the posts that really can change lives… There are so many people who I would like to show this post. It has helped me with conclusion on my last post… Amazing!

Honestly, I have a lot more good than bad things, but here’s my little list without any order, and certainly not complete, of the beauty I find in the world:

    1. Existence.
    2. Books that I read.
    3. People that I love and appreciate.
    4. My family.
    5. My girlfriend.
    6. Great people that I did not know before my blog.
    7. Sitting in silence.
    8. The smell of flowers.
    9. The appearance of stone.
    10. Moon
    11. Plants and trees.
    12. The present moment.
    13. Music.
    14. Emotions. Good and bad.
    15. Rivers that I love.
    16. Clouds, stars, night and dust.

  • Brenda August 3, 2010, 8:52 pm

    Tess,
This made my day …. it filled my heart with utter joy! Just got back from a hard day of traveling to see a sick relative and my heart was heavy…you helped me to focus on the beauty that is all around!

So much beauty in the world:

    Eyes filled with love.
    The cheerful cashier at Target.
My kids and nieces and nephews who grew up so lovely.
    My granddaugher’s laugh.
    The energy of love.
    Summer evenings.
    Barefoot days.
    Kids in sprinklers.
    Kindness in every form.
    Squirrels chasing each other.
    My husband’s strength.
    Meals lovingly prepared.
    Chocolate…milky, sweet, creamy…

  • Patty - Why Not Start Now? August 3, 2010, 9:35 pm

Wow, you nailed it, Tess. You captured all the big categories, and I love each and every one of them. A bounty of beauty. And I love the deeper message here, that we need only open our eyes and look, and we will see beauty before us. Why, just for today, I can tick off a bunch of beautiful stuff: an orange dragonfly, the warm sun, my husband’s smile, my client’s stories, the images for a collage, a reunion with an old friend, a drive through the park. And that’s just a few hours worth! Thanks for the reminder, Tess.

  • Megan "JoyGirl!" Bord August 4, 2010, 8:08 am

Oh Tess, this is wonderful! I love this phrase, “I don’t have problems only minor inconveniences.” Wow, if that doesn’t say it all, what does?!

I also love happy couples — they make my heart dance, and remind me of what I know is headed my way (and about to smack me lovingly between the eyes!).

Ohhh, and I just glimpsed Peggy’s “pea” comment. I love peas, too, and see such beauty in their color, texture and taste!

    Big hug & much love!

  • Kristie Ryan August 4, 2010, 11:31 am

    Absolutely love it Tess!

There is so much beauty in the world, it’s ridiculous. For me it’s sitting back and watching either nature simply exist or people being their great selves that really gets me.

Thanks for sharing, I’ve shared as well to hopefully spread the beauty 🙂

  • Evita August 4, 2010, 7:10 pm

    Hi Tess

Because of how much beauty you give to the world, you are able to get it back that much more for yourself.

You see beauty Tess so abundantly and I can feel every drop of your gratitude in the list you made for all these beautiful things!

I envy you, truly I do….I found your page by doing a search on the term “I see no beauty in the world”, because that’s how I feel. I feel quite desperate about it. Without wanting to sound self-pitying, my life has not been easy…and despite what TV and the movies might say about people with tough lives, it doesn’t turn us all into good, strong people, able to cope with everything, nor does it make us appreciate the good times more, when they come along. My life is much more peaceful than it used to be, the worst events are behind me now. Do I appreciate life now? No….I feel i’ve become a bitter, negative, depressed, anxious person. I am getting counselling now, but it hasn’t helped so far. I wish I could see something that I just instantly feel is beautiful…and stop envying those that can.
