That is so sweet. That made me smile to see this. We dont have to totally change someone's life to make someone else happy even for a few minutes - just be human.

Thank you for sharing!

I'm MUCH better at giving compliments than receiving them.

The "compliment" guy hails from my home state - Indiana. They have a thing there called "Hoosier Hospitality" and trust me - people in Indiana ARE that nice in everyday real life.

I fear if the compliment guy tried doing that down here in southeastern Florida - he wouldn't have received such a warm reception.

The video clip was wonderful. It made me smile.

Hi Tess. I love giving compliments, but receiving them is a bit more challenging. I've just reminded myself that accepting a compliment from someone else is an act of "seeing and hearing THEM". Hmmm, maybe if I make it less about me I can let the comment land.

Aw, wow...that's so adorable! I'm smiling like such a nerd just watching it on a computer screen, I can't imagine how big my grin would be if I passed these two on the street somewhere.

I love this idea-- and what a great time for them to get out there and do it!

I love to compliment people because it allows me to point something out about them that's unique.

A lot of young girls would rather stare at each other with a weird look if they liked something that another young girl had, but they should really compliment them. It shows confidence in my opinion and if we all managed to compliment each other we'd feel more confident and optimistic. :)

Great post and thank you for sharing this with us! I'll have to pass it along.

Daphne,
I hope you saw the video. Another example of how kids can bring our attention to do good in the world in small but important ways.

Mary,
There's no doubt in my mind you are a complimenter leaving happiness footprints where ever you go. I smile as I see you continuing to be and do good in the world!

Lance,
You and Jannie bring me smiles and laughs each time I read your blogs. I think we should give the three of us nicknames and who knows what that can lead too???

Stacey,
Wow thanks for adding that...I am thinking of changing it! I'm not so sure now. And you make it sound powerful. Breaking away from the pack is a powerful and bold move.

John,
That's great! It's nice that you will begin to share your smile and self with the world more often. The world needs you!

Janice,
Thanks for that clean compliment. Eric Hamm was my designer www.Frugaldesign.com and he and Leo B. believe in the clean and simple look. It works well for me. I'm also thinking of doing a different tag line...

Chris,
It shows that we all want and need attention, praise and love. Those guys look real and authentic...silly and funny!

Juliet,
If we all learn to give more then wouldn't the world be less glum. Thanks for stopping by Juliet. I've missed you.

Hillary,
Yes I'll be pouring on the praise to my grandkids. Pump them up for the start of a new school year. We'll also be doing so many fun things...I can feel the joy from head to toes as I type.

Megan,
The world is more joyful because of you. Continue the joy path and leading others to it. We are so blessed...and when we realize that joy can't help but bubble over.

I used to feel strange about receiving compliments --- I'd try to push them away. Someone could say, "You have such a nice smile" and my reply would be, "Oh no I don't... No... My teeth are all wrong." Then as I started walking my spiritual path and learning to love myself more, I wouldn't refuse a compliment, but I'd try to equalize it by instantly offering a compliment back to whoever said something to me. That's like being given a surprise gift and then thinking you have to give one right back to the giver!

Finally, in the state I'm in now I can receive compliments graciously. My gosh, and it feels so freakin' good!

I also love giving compliments - especially to strangers. If I see something I like on someone, I try to tell them. At the very least, my mind is usually finding things in people that I like and thinking the thought - even if I don't voice the thoughts for whatever reason.

What a cool video --- thanks for posting it!

Hi Tess .. that's great .. it looks cold - and they cheered everyone up - making their days full of sunshine. A bit over the top - but perhaps that's for the English 'lass' ..

Great idea though .. and we really need to complement more, rather than dwell on the negative or improving things ..rather than saying 'well done' .. that was great - I loved 'this' .. or 'that' -

this week you'll be doing lots of these with the little ones around?!

Enjoy your week .. lots of bold tales to tell later ..

Lovely

So few people do give compliments. Often when you give someone a compliment they seem surprised. Sad isn't that.....

I found myself actually being surprised that people weren't completely ignoring them and wanting to just be left alone. That really is an encouraging video.

What a smiley video!

Like you, Tess, I try to do as much as I can to make people who are doing me a service feel appreciated. It takes so very little but can really make someone's day. Years of teaching then parenting and coaching have convinced me that it's a good way to live.

I give complements naturally - there's so much good in the world, it's easy - but until a few years ago, I was rubbish at receiving them. It may be a Scottish thing; we can be a bit dour and we're not known for gushiness. Now I realise it's as important to receive compliments with gratitude and openness as it is to give genuine ones.

Seeing as the sub theme of this post seems to be the header of your blog, I've always loved it, even though I've seen the fish used on other blogs. I like the way your blog is 'clean'; the orange/blue combo is bold and bright and stands out because of the lack of clutter. Having said that, I know that anything else you've been considering will be well thought out and express you just as well.
